Ok two answers:

1) Life (and this could mean simple bacteria or algae) on another planet would imply that the process of changing complex (but not living) organic molecules into complex living molecules is relatively easy. As many religious and non religious people point out (and to lay my cards on the table, I'm an atheist scientist myself...) there is a big difference between evolution of life (masses of evidence and a compelling theory) and the 'formation' of life (No-one has 'created' life in the laboratory and so we don't know how easy or difficult it is). Many religious people would argue that this step of life from nothing is so incredibly unlikely that it in itself is evidence of some divine intervention (I wouldn't agree ...but there you go). If life started popping up on other planets however, then it would start to look like life was a more or less spontaneous reaction to the right planetary conditions... and there goes another "it couldn't possibly happen naturally" moment....

but....

2) In all reality, I seriously doubt that the religious would be terribly perturbed. Faith tends to be remarkably resilient to evidence.

Nothing will ever affect religion because it is one of the greatest money makers on this globe today, and if they ever do discover life on other planets religion will corrupt them just like it has on earth.

Ezekial 1

Read the first parts of that chapter.

Some scholars, have indeed interpreted that to be other life out there that came and visited Ezekial. Also, look at some of the religious paintings. Alien crafts are said to be in the paintings. Whether or not I believe it to be aliens, is beside the point.... but it does make one wonder.

Those religions who could point to some obscure thing in their holy books as explaining life would continue and those who cannot would happily die off. If we discover life on other planets a lot of people might believe scientology.

As a christain I would be very happy about it. It would mean that the vastness of space and time is not empty of life. That life has a devine purpose in the creation of the universe. More like the universe was created for the sole purpose of life.

I believe we would re-examine Don Scotus' reason as to why Christ became a human - because He wanted to and not because of some sin of Adam and Eve that was never committed.
I believe that Christ could also have visited other planets to be with God's children.

If we discover lie on other planets, we'll have to use a wedge to reach the green.

After all failed attempts to nuke the demons, and after realizing that they are highly advanced and peaceful beings, the Christians would try to bring the extraterrestrial sinners to Jesus. I can see them setting up churches all over the place and handing out leaflets etc.

God never said we were alone in the universe.People say "Well then will Jesus have to die for them too?"
You know ,when you read the gospels every peresus healed was done a different way.It is quite possible he can deal with other "persons" in other ways.

It probably will in some way... i doubt aliens will have a religion similar to any of ours, and hey, our god created all the universe, right? :) maybe we'd start a war against them because they dont share our beliefs... :))
