Yes. And it usually signals trouble. The woodpecker has very keen hearing. They peck on trees or houses to get at the insects under the bark or, in your case, the siding.
You need to find out if there is something in there and remedy the situation.

Yes they can, and it's not a good sign if they are. Assuming you have wood siding and thats why they were pecking. Wood peckers peck at trees to find food, aka bugs. That means you may have unwanted friends in your siding. If it continues to happen call an exterminator.

All the time, through the stucco to the metal screen and not just one spot but several areas. I have also seen one pecking away at a large cactus near our house.

draw close a cat on the area the place it incredibly is pecking, or positioned a faux owl on the roof the place the pecker can see it. playstation be constructive the cat you draw close on the home is a faux one to. or basically learn how to love the rhythm of the pecker. maximum peckers are looking for for bugs could you have termites

Yes there are birds that use metal for mating calls --crazy isn't it -My sister has seen them pounding on stop signs too !
Gee what did they use before metal signs and roofs ! LOL
