Just take your best guess....you really don't need to say something like, "We don't have to understand his motives."

Why does he not just appear and end the debate? If he wants everyone to believe in him, wouldn't this help out in that cause?

Sorry to disagree with you, but the Bible clearly teaches that God has totally revealed Himself. Psalm 19 says "The heavens declare the aglory of God." Romans 1 says Since the creation of the world His attributes have been clearly seen. Why doesn't He just reveal himself? Ever heard of Jesus Christ? That is exactly what He did.

I think its not so much a case of him choosing to be unknown its actually to do with our dependance upon the physical realm cuts us off from the spiritual. God is all around us but we are both spiritual and physical creatures and sometimes the physical can get in the way and often it does --it all depends what we focus our attention on--God does not have an automatic "right" to speak to us and force us to believe in his presence as that would of course lead to worship and that would be forced worship. He has to honour our free will even though human beings as a species do not have the capacity to really justify having it and often use it wrongly He still has to honour it. This is why I believe he does have to---

Humans chose to become undependant on God when they chose "to be like God" when they orginially ate from the tree - the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in Eden. Some take this metaphorically either way something big went down and we chose not to be directly related to God as our father. The first humans chose to have to the power of free will which of course means knowing the difference between good and evil.
Of course He has the ability to open the heavens and speak to us but he would be prevented from doing so by our spiritual "status" as creatures who long ago chose not to be directly related to him and would make him a tyrant. God cannot be a tyrant it goes against his very nature and I suspect that if He did he would no longer be God and would be unable to help us anyway

This is my theory and only my theory.

First, He did. He came in the person of Jesus Christ. Even in the face of the miracles, there were still those who would not believe. His miraculous appearing would not end the debate. People would insist that it was all smoke and mirrors.

Second, to appear in all His glory would be fatal to us in our present mortal condition. Moses was required to look at the burning bush or to turn his face to the mountain. He was so covered with the glory of God that he had to wear a veil so that others could look at him.

Finally, Satan was right there in Heaven, and still turned against God. Therefore, as Jesus said to Thomas, you believe because you have seen but blessed are those who believe and have not seen.

You don't need to see God to have the life that you have.
You are doing okay without Him.

But if you are interested in a life beyond this one, or even perhaps, a better life now, then that requires a God.

There really is no debate, only choices. God either exists or He doesn't. Either way we each must choose which we will believe.

According to Christian lore that is not exactly right. Back in the day, the Christian God was a miracle making fool. I mean, this is a guy that flooded the entire earth just because he was pissed off and he was always messing around with the lives of people – including impregnating a young child.

First of all, What makes you think He hasn't?

Second, He doesn't care if you believe in Him or not. He doesn't need validation.

Third, He doesn't want to meddle in our lives. If He spoke to you to make you somehow believe because of that. You might start doubting yourself. You need to trust your own judgements without outside influences. It would change everything about you. Your decisions would be different, your outlook, etc. It's like uprooting a plant that you are trying to grow. It would be too much for you. It is His garden here. It would be too overpowering. Like a parent saying to the son, "Here, let me do it. You don't do it right. I can't let him learn to learn by his own mistakes."

He is patient, He will have you in His own time, if He wants.

Your lifestyle would change for sure, when you were meant to be who you are, and where you are at.

But then again, what do I know?

The Bible answers this question-- Please Read Exodus 33.
That will explain why God does not come in physical form-- and yet HE DID come in physcial form, as Jesus Christ- to die on the cross, then he rose again....He is all Spirit, but was made into flesh as John 1:1 says-- whom is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!

So he did come in Physical form at one point-- as Jesus our Savior.
But Exodus 33 is about Moses and asking God to show Himself to him.

ALSO, very important-- Romans 1:20 explains that He does show himself through creation! And that in the end no one will have an excuse.

It's because of his serious self-esteem issues, therefore he'd only care if anyone believed in him without any evidence, taking a leap into the absurd. Sounds perfectly reasonable, if so I'm sorry for that; this is religion we are talking about.

Why would a perfect god create something imperfect he "loves" to eventually destroy it?

Actually, He did appear and a lot of people still refused to believe.

Jesus Christ came to Earth as the god man and performed many miracles which were thorougly documented and had thousands of eye-witnesses. Yet, He was still rejected by many.

Some people are just spiritually blind.

God told us "blessed are they that do NOT see and yet believe." Faith is a gift. Have you ever asked God for this faith? "Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find."

God bless you.

God does appear, everyday. Religion is the modern result of the immature fear of the dark that our primitive ancestors had. The Sun has Risen from the dead.
