Fleas are very tiny and they jump. Are your cats on Advantage or Frontline? If not its a good chance that they have fleas. give your cats a dose of advantage every month and you will solve the problem. I would bet money that it is fleas. If you would like to KILL your cats buy them Hartz products!!! NONE of those over the counter flea products work and I have seen many cats and dogs die from the products. Mites and lice don't jump!!! Mites that cats get are WAY too small to see, unless you have a microscope for eyes. They are fleas and you need to use Advantage or Frontline Seriously? Hartz? Ahhhh I wish people would just educate themselves just a little bit before answering questions. I think the person on the bottom meant to say make sure your cats are NOT exposed to the bug bombs!!!! I really hope so because that will kill your pet for sure. Also don't ever use a flea shampoo then a flea product. If you ever want to wash your pet and get rid of the fleas wash them with Dawn dishwashing soap, it kills the fleas and doesn't hurt the animal. Then wait a day and treat with Advantage or frontline. These flea products work with the natural oils on the pets skin, when you wash your pet you remove all the oils and so you will want to wait a day to get those oils back. I do agree that bug bombing the house is a good idea, but GET YOUR CATS OUT!!!!!

Cats will sleep wherever they please. You should get a cat bed just in case (a little cheap one will do) and put it somewhere like the top of your dresser, since some cats like to sleep higher up than other cats. It might choose to sleep on the bed when it's comfortable with you, especially because people are warm and cats like to be cozy when they sleep. It really all depends on the cat. If it's a huge concern, you can ask the people you're getting the cat from if it likes being high up or likes to hide etc.

Hate to be a bummer but they are probably fleas. Fleas are very tiny, hard shelled little nusiances that jump great distances. They probably jump on you in search of blood. Bare skin is a good smell to them and a good indicator that's what you have.

The other opition, depending on their size, is ticks. You can normally tell ticks because they will burrow into your skin. You can check both you and your cats for these. With ticks you can burn them out or snap them off at their necks and pull them out. Ticks are annoying and dangerous depending on where you live and what time of year it is. They carry lime disease from deer.

Mice can also bring fleas with them and would be a good indicator that you are infested.

Fleas are a pain to get rid of but easy to prevent. Your cats need to be treated with Frontline from your vet. Make sure to follow the directions carefully and to put the stuff where they can't reach it.

Borax in your carpets and yard work well to kill off fleas, ticks and other creepies including spiders. It is not harmful to your pets and you can vaccum it up inside after you let it sit for a while.

Your sheets are going to have to be washed and then dried on high heat to kill any fleas and their eggs that they have left behind. You can also wash your cats in a flea shampoo and use a flea comb before applying Frontline. Depending on how mellow your cats are.

Make sure to treat your garage also since this may be the source of the fleas. Call someone to take care of the mice, which will help take care of the fleas. You can use Borax here to, or a bug bomb. With bug bombs make sure your cats are exposed to it.

I'm not sure what your definition of 'tiny' is but fleas are pretty small - about the size of sesame seeds. If they weren't jumping they might be flea larvae - these are greyish, threadlike, and not much bigger than sand grains.

Sounds like you need to treat the cats and your house for fleas.

They are FLEAS ... get some good 'flea killer' for your cats and then WASH EVERYTHING ... you seeing them in the garage where you have mice tells me they are fleas ... if they were 'bedbugs' (which are far worse than fleas, actually) you'd see them only around your bed.

I suggest washing all of your bedding and then vacuuming your mattress. Call your vet and take the cats to get checked out. Do your cats go outside?

If you want to bathe your cat (not impossible-I used to do it all the time when I showed my Manx) be sure to use a shampoo designed specifically for cats. Shampoos designed for other animals can contain chemicals which are dangerous for cats.

mites! get some bleach for the garage areas where you see them and some spot treatment medicine for your cats. Hartz has a really good one and it lasts for months with each application. costs 8 to 12 dollars depending on where you buy it.
