I just graduated from college. It wasn't a religious school of any sort and the religious backgrounds are pretty diverse, but looking back. Why is it that some Christians think its appropriate to go up to me or any other non-christian and tell them they should change? I think its very rude and I think they are bad people for not accepting that someone else has beliefs that they feel strongly about, but they aren't the same as theirs. What is with those people?

I also don't think Christians should stop believing what they believe. Religion is important for the soul. I just don't think one religion should force itself on other people.

I'm well educated on the subject and know that there is very little difference between our two religions. And its not that I dislike people telling about their religion, its that they tell me that I am wrong or my religion is evil, that is what I find rude.

Let me correct myself, I say they are both alike because of a devotion to one single being. I think all the differences revolving around that shy away from the big picture that the Lord is our G-d. Its those differences that you all Look at the big picture people.

I am muslim and I agree with you. I find it rude also when people try to convince you to change. I was christian and I decided to become muslim about 17 years ago. I do not preach to people but if you ask me I will tell you what my religion is. I believe we all have a choice in what we want to believe. I dont believe or expect the world to all become muslim with me. We have to learn to live with each other and learn to appreciate each other for our differences.
I have been told many different reasons why christians do this, The evangelical waccos down the street from our masjid say they do this because they believe that when the whole earth is christian then Jesus will return.
I wish they would lighten up and learn to live and let live.
Very interesting question. Congratulations on your graduation and I wish you all the best.

Being Jewish, and being easily identifiable as a Jew by wearing a kippah, or having peyos or visble tzitit seems to invite people to try and convert you- And guess what0- aftre posting this you will probably find some view that as an invitation to send you the "good news" via email! Its a pain, (and yeah- I wrote a post in a blog on it one day when I was feeling really irritated)- and its amazing how they will obnoxiously do this at the most irritating times! I have no desire to have my evening out with my wife interrupted by somebody telling me that since i have heard the gospels, and rejected them, I am doomed to burn in hell!
But a correction I must make to your post- you are evidently not as educated on the differences as you believe. the two religions are VERY different. Christianity has gone on a completely different path to Judaism theologically- so much so that it is difficult to find the remnants of Judaism within. A few of the major areas of difference:
1) The belief that God would physically manifest to produce a child is the opposite of Jewish belief
2) The belief that God is made up of different beings is the opposite of Jewish belief in the single, undivided nature of God.
3) The belief that any being could set itself up in opposition to God (i.e. the devil) is the opposite of Jewish belief in which God is the sole and only authority and author of events in the world
4) The idea of eternal damnation for people who err (Hell), is the opposite of Jewish belief in which God is loving and always forgives.
5) The idea that God would ever cancel his convenant, after explicitly stating it was eternal, and thus turning God into a liar, is the opposite of Jewish belief
6) The idea that God could ever make a mistake (i.e. that the law he gave was too difficult to follow and was thus replaced with the sacrifice of his "son") is the opposite of the Jewish belief that God is perfect and never makes mistakes.
7) The idea that God can make mistakes is also the opposite of the Jewish belief that God is eternal and across all of time (God is, God was, God will be) and thus knows rthe consequences of every action and can tus never makes mistakes or not know the result sof something he does.

Dude, it's your job to be proud of who you are, and not let others interfere. Countless Jews fall into the hands of those messianic bastards who convert us to their falselihood. Their goal since hundreds of years ago is to get as many people to believe in their nonsense as possible. Our goal is to try our best to serve our one and only true G-d, and believe in Him whether you're religious or not. Other than that, our job is to not listen to anything anyone else says, because then you'll only let them succeed in ruining what could have been a wonderful and successful life, whether it's in this world or the next.
You see, we Jews don't go around trying to convince people to join our religion because it's the right one etc. We let people come to us and even then the rabbi rejects them to make sure they really do want to convert, if they come back (all part of the conversion process). Anywho, defend your religion well, and keep in mind that their main goal is to get followers to love some guy who died a long long tiem ago.

To a Christian or a Muslim, your soul is doomed to eternal damnation. They feel it is their job to "Save" you. Eternal Damnation was mentioned in the old testament too. But Christians think they have some fix on it as it is linked to their Savior, Jesus Christ, in their opinion.
Christians are simple minded people who think that they can do no wrong as long as they swear Jesus was infallible and equal to God on earth! They have not learned tact or logical thinking all that well. It is burned into their mind that logical thinking will destroy their soul eternally.
I know, I used to be a Catholic, Baptist, and Methodist before I began recovering. Today, I am a Forgive Affirmed Spirit.
The United States was formed around some principles of Christianity. If you were not a Unitarian when this country was formed, you could not vote. Our society today is an extension of that thinking, although more liberal.
Even The Privacy Act of 1974 made it legal for the government to continue to hire and promote from the Christian social engine and never have to reveal that they did this, hiding behind "privacy". Hence quotas for minority religions did not have to be checked.
Healing be unto you and yours and me and mine

Some people believe they are right about everything. Don't worry about those people as they are unimportant. I am a Christian and I feel that people should believe what they believe. If their beliefs make them better people or helps them through their lives then I am all for it.
That being said, I do have some doubt in Christianity as of late, but that's a whole different question to respond to.

i think that for any of us who share this common background, it's a common occurrence. it can be as annoyingly innocuous as some little old lady following you around the grocery store, handing out tracts and trying to save you (much like getting 'coupons for g-d'). it can be as intrusive as the missionaries, who ring your doorbell, at some ung-dly hour, to 'share the glad tidings'. it can be as intimidating as a co-worker, or even a boss, making their 'good news gospel' an 'optional' (but, really mandatory if you want to succeed in work, or advance) activity. it can be as harassing as some group of thugs, who all quote the party line, physically attacking and assaulting. we all deal with it, almost all the time. the other guys' sense of entitlement can be overwhelming, and what's funny, is they think that they are being persecuted, if someone dares to NOT accept their truth.
i honestly wonder, if they believe there is a celestial scoreboard, with every faith competing for the 'prize' of 'most souls'. you'd think that they themselves were going to cash in on something! honestly, they act like YOU are the same as free samples from the bank!!

Well, I haven't held a gun to anyone's head this week but next week I have five hostile hostage take over sessions planned at various non-christian places of worship and intend to use all means of force necessary to convert these people to christianity. This tactic hasn't been very effective so far...sorta like how torture is used to get Christians to denounce their faith in certain countries. Typically doesn't work..but I enjoy it so much. Hey maybe they'll make a movie of my long career of "forcing people" to accept Christ...a catchy title would be..."Accept Him Or DIE"...LOL. This week I'm gonna take it easy and enjoy adult caffienated beverages with a co-worker or two and perhaps mention the Messiah to them and see how it goes...after all, isn't thier eternal life as important as mine? I'll save repelling down buildings fully locked and loaded, packin' a piece and the Good Book for next weeks tirade of terror. Better look out...cuz I might be comin' for you!

The Bible commands believers to go spread the Good News that Jesus is the Messiah. How ever some people are so excited about the good news that they get over excited and it comes across wrong. If my friend were about to go into a building that on fire I would do anything in my power to keep them from harm.Woould someone be offened by this ? Probably but I would not care. Jesus is my boss and I do what he says. I am more afraid of The Lord than I am of man. No man can be forced into heaven. You choose and Jesus knows what you will choose. Jesus was a Jew and his own people chose to deny him.

Christians are pretty arrogant and think everyone will suddenly become Christian by threatening hell fire and then showing how accepting Jesus you won't go to hell.
By the way Christianity and Judaism are NOTHING alike.

I have to agree with allonyoav, If you think that Judaism and Christianity are similar then you do not know your own religion.
I strongly suggest you do some research and find out what Judaism is.
