This would have been a similar style fight like the Frazier vs Ali fights with Joe pressuring Holmes with Holmes using that great jab of his. I believe that Frazier would drop Holmes sometime during this fight but Holmes would get up and fight back hard. Smokin Joe would keep coming after Larry looking to land his vaunted left hooks with Larry boxing effectively. This would be a very close fight that could really go either way, but the judges award it to Joe by a close and controversial decision.

Frazier would have chugged his way to the inside and dropped hook after hook on Holmes. Holmes had an excellent jab, an awesome right hand and a terrific uppercut but he wasn't very fast on his feet. Joe would have chased him down and gone to work on the inside. They both had decent power and would both have likely gone down once or twice in the bout but in the end the busier, faster and better infighting Frazier would edge out a decision over 15 rounds. By the end of the match Frazier's eyes would be swollen almost shut and the right side of Holmes's face would be puffed out like someone had hit him with a bat.

Larry Holmes. He's bigger, stronger and has got more all-around skills than, perhaps, any heavyweight in history. He could do everything Muhammad Ali did and more. He had probably the best jab in heavyweight history. He also had decent knockout power especially in his right hand. His defense consisted of parrying punches, in which he was very good at, and countering with a deadly right hand. Holmes also took his training seriously during his prime that Frazier wouldn't really have much chance. Remember that Ali took 2 out of 3 against Joe, but that shouldn't have been the case if Ali took his training more seriously. Holmes was dead serious at all times especially during his prime.

This would be a very close fight, but I feel the prime Frazier would edge the prime Holmes in a very close fight, which would see Frazier flooring Holmes, but Holmes getting up and making it even harder for Frazier.

It's Larry Holmes.
He will hold Frazier at bay with his jabs, used his longer reach to frustrate Smokin' Joe and on later rounds he will KO him. Larry Holmes is the more complete boxer, he got the better jab, has an underrated KO punch and a better defensive fighter. While Joe Frazier is i think a one-dimensional fighter, he is a brawler thru and thru.

A fighter as tough as Frazier would have a shot against pretty much anybody (except maybe the young Frankenstein that was Foreman), but I really do think he was tailor-made for Holmes, who had the greatest jab of any heavyweight I ever saw fight.

Frazier beat Ali. He would beat Holmes also.

Holmes would find a way to make it a boring fight by dictating the range, then clinching during the infighting, nullifying most of JF's best assets.
