I have a dodge 04.5 4x4 diesel 3500 swb auto 100hp chip large tires lift. Much more no comparison to gas as they cost more to buy, fuel is more.Quiet no smoke unless you hammer it .But will last 300 thousand miles an sell for top dollar so there is no loss to buying a diesel.I get 20 mph hwy. 17 city Find a gas that with comes close HA HA 10 maybe. Not a 1/2 ton either.A real truck. Have twin diesels in my boat. Love the power.

I would say it depends on how you use the truck and how long you plan on keeping it.Besides higher fuel costs there is higher maintenance cost with owning a diesel. If your not hauling or towing a lot than a gas engine might be better for you and the hemi with mds gets pretty good fuel mileage. If your towing or hauling heavy weight a lot and plan on owning the vehicle for more than a couple hundred thousand miles go for the diesel.

For durability and particularly the Cummins, economy they cannot be beat. The ridiculous answer about pouring smoke is just stupid. Modern diesels do not pour smoke due to environmental regulations. If the do, they are no longer stock or have a problem. The Cummins is used in 40,000 pound wheel loaders and 68,000# excavators. It is loafing in your truck. Let's see, around 30% more efficient than ANY GASOLINE engine..yeah..that hurts the enviornment and our economy..Sure!
Good Luck

They cost more to buy. Fuel costs more. Get better mileage. Last longer. Pollute more.
Yes, because of the better mileage and longer life it more than covers the higher costs.

Yeah, if you don't mind a noisy, smokey vehicle that pumps out potentially carcinogenic fly-ash!
Diesel is a crude fuel compared to gasoline. You could only do worse by burning COAL!

Yes. It is better for the environment, cheaper (most of the time), and you get better mileage. Just because it is black smoke does not mean it is worse for the environment.
