Would a compassionate deity punish a person for that?

i don't think you can be intelligent and NOT have some trouble deciding what you believe. it's a big thing, religion. to accept a higher power alone is a mind-blowing concept. some people feel more comfortable rejecting it, others accept it whole-heartedly. i don't think a compassionate god/dess would smite someone just because they haven't figured out how they want to define the higher power (or lack of one?).

It seems people punish us and the laws of physics and the universe. Believe really means more understand. If you don't understand what Christ said, how can you be said to believe it? I can't help but have compassion. Read some of "Emotional Intelligence" a free ebook with sixty others on trans4mind Skip around in it to get the sense and important parts. You will be on the road out of confusion. with some of the other free books too and then you will be able to decide all of reality, practical and theoretical and most of what you read on any subject. luv

Of course not! Don't you think God wants you to be honest with yourself? Do you think he wants you to just -say- you believe something to make other people happy? I sure don't think so.

Religion is totally gratuitous. You can be religious if you really want to or not if you really want to. You can live a good, moral life either way.

The whole problem we're having today is that some people haven't figured this out. They think it's all about obligatory doctrines. If you believe in God, they insist, you have to believe this and this and this other thing. Otherwise you might as well not bother believing in God. But I think they have it wrong. I don't think there are obligatory doctrines. Your relationship with God is between you and God. I don't think God would punish you for just being honest, for saying you don't believe what you don't believe.

No, but I think IF there is a deity he/she/it would want you to at least put forth an effort to seek answers to your questions.

It's bad if you aren't sure yet confess some kind of belief in some kind of god. It's much better to be honest with yourself and others rather than feel pressured to conform to someone else's ideologies.

You still have a lot of time to figure things out, don't rush a decision. Take your time and figure out what you believe in--not just what appeals to you.

Life is confusing. You'll figure it out one day.
Good luck!
