Dear All
Let ponder over the verses of Holy Book Quran for the answer.
16:3 He created man from a drop of sperm, so now! He has become an open disputer.
49:13 O people! Verily We have created you from a male and female, and have made you different branches and different tribes, so that you may recognize each other. Surely the most honored of you in the presence of Allah is he who is the most pious of you. Surely allah is the All Knowing and, the all Aware.
23:115 Did you imagine that We had created you in vain and that you were not to return to Us?
36:61 And you should worship Me alone. That is the straight path.

It's the same purpose of Creation.. Quran never denied evolution; on the contrary....
It was Allah سبحانه و تعالى who taught us about evolution in the Quran.. The Quran states that Humans evolved from unicellular creatures, actually.
Quran answered this 1400 years ago.
"Who made all things good which He created, and He began the creation of man from clay;"
"began" the creation of Humans, this means a "phase" of creation before the full being.
Here we agree that creation "began" already. then:
"Then He made his seed from a draught of despised fluid;
The "Created Human" began breeding already, it's a complete shape of life.
"Then He fashioned him and breathed into him of His Spirit;"
Creation is done! "fashioned" a creature that is already alive and breeding! Fashioned it to the form we know.
Then:
"and appointed for you hearing and sight and hearts. Small thanks give ye!"........
This means that before the full human, there was a breed with no: "hearing and sight and hearts".. something like the amoeba or the single cell.
And the embryo; don't it tell us a story? in a phase; he's just a cell, then he breathes with lungs "like a fish", then he is covered with slight feathers "like a bird" then he's got a tail that evolves at the 5th month to become his bottom bone.
Humans evolved, but not from apes; every creature have his "own" Fathers and tree. if I said: Ducks evolved from dinosaurs, then I'm being silly, but if I said: Ducks came from "Arckopatricks " the flying Dinosaur" who's like a bird; then that's logic.
When I say: the elephant evolved from a mosquito.. This is really nonsense; but a respectful scientist may say: Elephants came from Mammoths and Mastodons.
Every creature had its own tree, Quran simplified it all.. go and check yourself, all verses quoted are from Chapter 32: as-Sajdah: The Adoration - Verses 7 ---> 9.

The animals that survived where the ones who worked together and helped each other. Hey, I got an idea. Why don't we try that? We need a motto. How about, we are the RS people, we only give thumbs up for extra points. We could only answer sensible question, being quite liberal with that idea and not thumbs down to spread the hate, just ignore children unless they behave. Should we have ten commandments or only two?

Its "purpose" as such is as a mechanism for change so that organisms can continue in changing environments and ecologies. Purpose is not really the right work as it is a mechanism not a cause. The cause is the stresses placed on a group of organisms and the mutations that MAY be helpful to it...

Evolution has no purpose. It is just what happens as a result of combining external pressures with random chance.

apparently, to produce an almost endless variety of beetles (haldane). individuals are capable of survival and reproduction, and since their offspring are similar to them, the offspring tend to be also capable. over the generations, they evolve. there is no discernable final goal or 'purpose'. environmental niches tend to become filled, but the environment is changeable (and filling niches sometimes creates new niches).

Survival.
Animals evolve to adapt to their environment, predators, etc. This occurs to further their species and survive.
