Actually I had heard of a shelter that was trying a program where you take a dog home for the day or a weekend. You rented the dog for people that could not for some reason have a dog fulltime. I imagine there are some flaws to the program but they claimed PPL ,some w/ kids that worked a lot or wanted to meet lots of dogs were loving the idea and were paying to "rent dogs" so the shelter was making $$ and the dogs were getting some 1 on 1 with families.

I have to agree with the majority of the other posters here. Why exactly do you want to borrow a dog?? Dogs do need stable backgrounds but leaving them with kennels when you go on vacation can be unavoidable. If you just want to find out if owning a dog is right for you why not ask your dog owning friends if you can look after their dog while they are away.

Actually, I just saw on the news recently where people do borrow dogs. They have several families that all have ownership and the dogs are rented out to these families. They have it Miami and Los Angeles, according to the news program. There may be other places that do it. I would google pet renting.

just a teasing question, I bet. But that's dumb to borrow a dog. Getting a dog makes sense...but who would borrow a dog? It's mean to the dog.

Um I don't think there's a place you can borrow a dog, unless it's a friend of yours. Why would you need to borrow a dog?

Try your local library. The larger ones usually have a branch devoted to animals you can check out.
I have llama reading over my shoulder right now, but I have to return him tomorrow or I'll have to pay late fees. Too bad. I haven't finished my llama-fur sweater yet.
Honestly, I, like everyone else, don't have a clue what you're talking about. If you want to "try out" a dog or a breed to see if it'd be a good fit for you before committing to a dog, I suggest you contact rescue organizations to see if you can provide a foster home for a dog.

I don't think you can barrow a dog from shelter. I don't know why you would want to just barrow one......BUT if you wanted to see what its like to own a dog, you could pet sit for a friend or neighbor for a few days. It would give you an idea to the kind of responsiblity that comes with owning a pet.
