Sourdough round loaves -- they are perfect for bread bowls. You local supermarket should carry them.
oops! I meant to say that it would be good served in sourdough loaves -- not cooked in them -- too soggy!

Buy a big old round french bread type roll
bake in oven again at 400 for about 5 minutes or until it's nice and crunchy on the outside
Using a bread knife remove top 1/3 reserve top
scoop out contents
fill 3/4 w/ soup
replace top
serve

Cooking in a bread bowl will make the bowl all soggy, and the soup will eventually seep through it. You can serve it in a bread bowl. You'll find round sourdough or shepherd's loaves at the grocery store good for that.

You can't cook in a bread bowl....you can only serve in it. So there would be no actual bread that is good to cook in. You have to make the soup in a regular pot.

Serve it in a round pumpernickel bread bowl (like you normally see used with spinach dip). Pumpernickel or other rye bread is excellent with tomato soup.
