Tom Delay says, "never surrender". How come they don't take his advice?

War is hell.

Suicide is most commonly the easy way out for the weak willed and weak minded.

Please don't try to come at me with how cold I am. I have had friends kill themselves, close friends. I have had a family member make the attempt. After he sucked it up, lifted his head and found his pride again he told me it was the cowards way out.

I know how it feels to loose a loved one to suicide.

Warriors hard and strong keep fighting and never give up. We call them heroes.

This is a hard world and it’s about to get a whole lot harder.

Yes I did serve. For ten years. I have seen friends die among other things…

Surrendering to what exactly? War is and always has been Hell. People who commit suicide are not surrendering, but are trying to get out of the situation that they find themselves bound in. Telling someone who feel hopeless and has seen a lot of violence to "buck up little camper! Never surrender" is absolutely stupid. There are better ways to deal with those who are suffering stress disorders and telling people to "walk it off" in war never has worked and never will effectively.

Are those who commit suicide in college quitting school? The suicide rate in the military is still far below that of 18-25 year olds in the civilian population. Suicide is the 11th highest cause of death in the U.S. Fortunately, most people cope and don't commit suicide.
And those weren't "kids" who killed themselves. They were young men and women who chose to come forward and serve their country in time of war. And I dare say, despite whatever mental demons were troubling them, they were a hell of a lot more mature than some of the questioners!

You have no idea the kind of stress a soldier endures on a tour of duty in a combat zone.

Imagine wondering not if but when you'll be injured or killed while on patrol. Knowing that each person you look at could just as easily kill you when you are caught off guard.

Then imagine having served a tour only to be told you have to go back again for another tour, or that your tour has been extended.

My friend was stationed there, she told me about a soldier in Iraq trying to committ suicide but wasn't successful. He shot away part of his jaw, they rushed him to the hospital. She never found out what happened to him. Makes me shudder to think someone could be pushed so far that he thought suicide was the only option.

You're an idiot. So is Tom Delay. And, also, so is "sharia_vigilant". Suicide isn't an easy way out. Could you do it? If it's so easy, do it and prove me wrong. What? you're not going to, of course. That's exactly why it's not an easy way out. Because youre scared of death. I think suicide takes a lot of courage because you're making the biggest leap into the unknown possible.

Suicide is very unsettling and it's the worst for family and friends of the victim. But it's not an "easy" way out.

Young men sometimes commit suicide. The rate of suicide is actually lower for young men serving in the military, than for the general population. Make of that what you will.

IMHO, suicide is not wrong, it's not surrender, either real nor metaphorical, it's a natural corallary to the right to life: the right to die. Sorry if that creeps anyone out.

No, I do not think they are surrendering. I come from a Military family. I wasnt a brat or anything just alot of my family is or was military. In fact my older brother just got out of the Army this past week after three tours in Iraq. I think the soliders that committ suicide dont know what else to do, like many others who aren't in the army and commit suicide.

Suicide is a perment solution to a temp. problem. The major problem for our Soliders is that we dont provide counsling service to those who come home from war. We have know idea what our men and women see so how is it we can tell them that they are fine when they come out.

they are not surrendering to the enemy they are ending there lives. Its a mindset thing that should be identified by commanding officers, fellow soldiers and army staff. fellow soldiers should notice this sort of thing quickly and they should be given help when identified.

When you go to bed tonight think about those heroes who took their own lives after suffering physically and mentally in the defense of freedom. Some who did so because of heartless, uncaring people like you who do not follow the motto of the military - "Take Care of Your Own".

As you lay in that comfortable bed surrounded by the freedom and luxury given to you by our soldiers, think about the thousands who are laying on a desert or mountaintop or roof in boiling heat trying to get an hours sleep for once.

Then, try to go to sleep. If you do, you are a heartless coward caring nothing for mankind.
