I ran into this lady a few months ago and she was going on about how the vets in my town aren't telling the truth about how often and what vaccines dogs/cats should be getting and apparently they won't because they want to make money off vaccinating the animals as much as possible. Does anyone know how often and what vaccines my dogs should be getting? OR if there is a website with that information. I just contacted the Vet Board so I am hoping to find out soon but if anyone on here knows......please let me know. ( I have two min pins - 2 yr old & a 6 yr old)
Thank you in advance for your help!

First off, unless you are experienced with vaccinations, do not give them yourself. (i.e. you are a breeder, rancher, vet tech., etc)
Your vet will know what kind of vaccines your dog needs for your area.
vaccines are given to pups 3 separate times, at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 14 weeks.
as an adults, booster shots are suggested once a year.
also, worming your dog is important, as parasites can do more damage sometimes than viruses, by inhibiting their immune system, etc.

There are many different brands, and kinds of vaccination shots. this is why it's vital to make sure you get the right info, and more importantly, right vaccine. or it can be harmful, if not fatal, to your pet.

Your vets are the best people to trust.
If you aren't sure about one vet, visit another.
they have been certified by a board of their peers, and associations, never mind going to school all those years......

Many vets are now following this schedule for shots: Puppy shots, three sets, starting at 8 weeks and repeated every three to four weeks.Rabies at three months.A booster of all shots in a year, and then boosters only every three to five years. It has been discovered that vaccinations last much longer than previously thought, and some studies have even shown antibodies after as long as 7 years! I do my dogs every three years.

My pug gets all of the shots that she can possibly need and she only goes to the vet twice a year. During her regular yearly checkup she gets the basic shots plus her rabies (I don't get the additional shots- bodertelia? and lymes- because she does not board anywhere and she is not around ticks). I then go back after six months to get a parvo booster. I highly suggest that you also get her tested for heartworms during the yearly visit. If your puppies are not on heartworm preventatives yet, I also highly suggest them. Hope that this helps.
