If speaking in tongues is inspired by the Holy Spirit and is the language of Angels, can we equally be inspired in the same way by the forces of darkness, (speaking in a language that is demonic) and if so, what would be their intention?

Please give answers objectively, all communities are welcome, Christian, Muslims, athiest, satanists etc.......

It's my understand, from my church (Antioch Orthodox) that Speaking in Tongues was a minor gift from the Holy Spirit and manifested after Jesus' resurrection for that time.

Pentacostal and Charasmatic churches who engage in tongues and being 'slain in the spirit' are highly emotional. I suspect it's a psychological reaction and people simply babble because it's what others are doing and it's expected of them.

Remember that scene from Borat? After Azamat has stolen his bear and left him, he's despondent and goes into a pentacostal church(where there are two Republican VIPs speaking) and the dancing, running, hopping, skipping, babbling and barking, along with being 'slain in the spirit' with the minister clearly leading them "Let that tongue go!"--as he commanded to Borat to yield to the Holy Spirit(and, of course, Sacha Baron Cohen played right along).

Humor aside, the danger is that some people who engage in Speaking in Tongues might be opening themselves up to negative spirits (demons).

If speaking in tongues were inspired by demonic forces the intent could very well be to mimic the sign of God. Think about it, people recognize tongues as a gift from the Holy Spirit, so if someone does it, most people automatically think that person is favored by God. And everyone, including anti-Christians for some reason, all of a sudden want to be followers. That's how it seems to work anyway, with everything else.

fuzz - ...Some people believe Christians cannot be deceived but they are wrong. Eve was deceived. That's why she fell. She was perfect, without any sin of any kind, when she got deceived. She was better than any Christian has ever been and she still got deceived.

I hate to pop you bubble but Eve was not perfect. Because she sinned proves that she was not perfect. She was sinless however but that is not perfect. A baby is sinless but he has to potential to sin and eventually will. I do agree that Christian are deceived. The tongues movement as abused and used today is a perfect example of the deceiption. Tongues had a place in the early church because the Bible (New Testament) had not be written. People were given the ability to speak in a foriegn language so the other person could hear the Good News. That is Gospel in Greek, get it. I will not comment on whether it is the language of angles. There is no scripture that supports it as I see.

"if I speak in the tongues of men and of angels" so yes there's more kinds of tongues. yes, Satan being the copycat artist he is can make a person appear spirit-filled and speak in a language unknown to them.

generally, if the devil does it, it's a twisted imitation. that's all he knows. so it'll sound the same (as most people can't understand it, very few can, as that's a gift in itself) to most people, yet it's really just random words rather than an intricate language of words taking on new meanings and with different sentence structure.

I've heard of demon possessed people envoking glossalalia, so yeah, I think it's possible.

Actually, I have heard from Bible-believing Christian people that some tongues come from Satan. After a person speaks in tongues, they sometimes get into big trouble shortly afterward in their walk with Christ because the tongues experience they had was demonic and not from God. These cases are rare but it wouldn't surprise me if they do occur sometimes. The demons' intention would be to confuse believers. The main power of Satan is simply to lie to you. If he can deceive a Christian, then he can cause lots of problems in the Christian's life that could've been avoided if the Christian hadn't gotten deceived. Some people believe Christians cannot be deceived but they are wrong. Eve was deceived. That's why she fell. She was perfect, without any sin of any kind, when she got deceived. She was better than any Christian has ever been and she still got deceived. It happens to all of us sometimes. That's one of the reasons we need each other. We can correct each other sometimes.

Speaking in tongues is the practice of self-delusion. Studies have shown that activity in the language center of the brain drops sharply during glossolalia, and the oral sounds used while speaking vary according to the native language of the speaker (i.e. babbler).

Bible tongues were languages understood by the people who spoke that language. Modern tongues is a revival of pagan practices disguised as bible tongues. This is not the first thing that Christians have borrowed from us pagans.

I totally agree with you... I know some things are from God, but I Kmow it says in the Bible that God is not a God of confusion, and I have been to churches where there are people running around making noises that are hard to believe is of God, (or that angels sound like that). so Guess we'll just have to wait till we get to heaven and ask God himself.

from what I heard it says in the bible when some one speaks in tongues the person speaking should be able to interpet what he or she said in tongues or someone else who heard it should be able to say what the person who spoke in tongues said.. if no one interpets what was said it is not of God. or something like that ..LOOK it up it says it in the Bible ...
