I have never been to Catalina Island and i like to visit for a day (not an overnight stay) can anyone give some info on where to take a ferry and the best time to get there and be back by evening with out missing a thing. how much it would cost per person? and what to do in such a short time?

ofgc12, ---Boats leave from Marina Del Rey, Long Beach and I think Newport Beach...Most head over faily early in the morning and most come back around dinner time...The trip as the song goes is 26 miles and takes about and hour and a half.
Average fairs run maybe $40 to $60., but print out a $10. off coupon at the Chamber of Commerce web site. The funnest thing is to run around the place all day in golf carts...Have Fun...

Check out www.ecatalina.com for information on everything about Catalina. I am planning a trip there soon also and have checked out many sights. Adult fares are 29.50 one way and 59.00 round trip. First ferry leaves Long Beach at 6:15 and last returns at 9:45 so you will have plenty of time to play. You will have time to go snorkeling, take a ride in a glass bottom boat, and still have time to enjoy the scenery. Hope you have a great time.

Things to do on the island: hang at the beach, go on a tram tour to see the interior of the island (see bison, bald eagle, and fox), go snorkeling, parasailing, kayaking, scuba diving. Shop, eat, play miniture golf, rent a golf cart, see the botanical gardens, ride the glass bottom boat. Check here for boat information to the island.
