Since God doesn't have a body, the image God is speaking of cannot be physical. God is Spirit. It's in the Bible some place. You'll have to look it up yourself. And anyway, I don't think people have vestigial structures. The tailbone is an anchor point for nine muscles. The appendix is probably part of the immune system. Far as I know, those are the only two parts of the human body that scientists consider vestigial, and in truth, neither one is vestigial.

I find it funny how much faith some people have in science. Land on a person on Mars? Science will eventually find an answer. Develop true artificial intelligence? Science will eventually find an answer. Encounter extraterrestrial lifeforms? Science will eventually find an answer. Find a possible use for so-called vestigial structures? Science will eventually... hold on a second there, bub! Now you're talking crazy talk. Why if we can't find one in the ten minutes we looked, there must not be one. Not to mention that the whole argument for vestigial structures is an argument from ignorance.

Speaking of ignorance, it appears that people who misuse Genesis 1:27 need to look up the word "image" in the dictionary. An image is only like an original in some ways (and none of those ways must necessarily be physical). For example, there's an image of Lincoln on the U.S. penny. One will note, however, that it doesn't eat, sleep, breathe, etc., etc., etc., like Lincoln could.

The image of God in us is vestigial at best.

Notice that Seth was NOT born in the image of God but in the image of his sinfully flawed father.

Gen 5:3

3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.
(from New International Version)

In Christ, the image of God is being restored to us:

2 Cor 4:3-4
4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
(from New International Version)

Col 3:8-11
9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
(from New International Version)

2 Cor 3:18

18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
KJV

The appendix is indeed vestigial, and trapped in a cul-de-sac. It's already so poorly supplied with blood it's a health hazard, and if it gets smaller it's even more likely to blow up. So we're stuck with it.

What's God doing with a GI tract at all, I wonder...

Have you never noticed him, in that photo op of the "Last Super"; sitting on one of those donut pillows, because of that coccyx fracture he got, climbing up and down the mount to deliver a sermon?

Our union with God that resemble it, is spiritual. The body is only a grandly conceived machine for carrying around that spirit being

Well obviously not all of us were created in God's image.

Some of us apparently were created in the image of an idiot.
