I am drawn to the archaological findings about Minoan Crete -- the imagery is just SO powerful -- but unfortunately there just isn't any information about the actual practices.

My ancestors built with wood rather than stone, and since their edifices did not survive in the same manner as those of the Romans and Greeks, were dismissed as "barbarians" for hundreds of years.
New archeaological finds and methods are changing all that, and there is much now to show that our cultures were sophisticated and advanced in ways we were not previously given credit for being. But one artifact really stands out for me: the Venus of Laussel. More elegantly carved than the more well-known Willendorf figure, she holds a bison horn, toward which her face is tilted. On the horn are carved 13 notches. She is about 25K years old.
We go that far back, we heathens. Later petroglyphs show a spear-bearing god, a hammer or axe wielding god, a boar-riding or accompanied god . . . 5K years later, godstangs (poles) or carved figures of Odhinn, Thor, and Freyr are recorded as having been worshipped at Uppsala.
We go back.

A major reason for my path is looking at my (pre-christian) ethnic roots as a European. So (with an Anthropological background) I'm attracted to the pre-historical artifacts like the standing stones and artworks.
Particularly the different Goddess figurines.

the places that resonet with me are not acrhaeological at all. I am drawn to backroad four way stops. i know to some it might seem odd. but cross roads have always been places of meetings for the spiritual realm and the physical as they are concidered inbetween areas. places that are neither one thing nor another but both. and the reson i prefer back roads is because they are more secluded. i often will hold impormptue cerimonies when I come to one that resonates deeply with me.

Paleolithic cave paintings, especially the ones in France at Lascaux and Les Trois Freres. I'm planning on getting the Sorceror/Antler shaman tattooed on me at some point.

This is "She Who Watches", Tsagaglalal. It is a petroglyph beside the Columbia River in Washington state.

She speaks to me in so many ways; I love her images and have them in various places in my house. It's almost as if she is a Goddess face watching over me.
