Agreed, all a "good" politician needs these days is the fortune to be born into the right family, look at the Bushes, look at the Kennedys, political families - These people, at least now-a-days own this government, and are more concerned with keeping their political career going in many cases, or helping out their business buddies.
The average politician has never known the strife of the working class. They've always known their privileged life, as have their friends who help them get in (who would also sell them out if it was profitable).
Worst of all - there is not a decent man or woman running who has a snowball's chance in Hell.

Yes.
They sold us out to companies that are only interested in profit. A lot of people can't afford houses becasue wages don't match house prices. Gordon Brown says he wants affordable housing but whos to say prices won't go up again.
People are forced to work extra hours with little extra money, if any.
NHS - pants ( I had to wait a month for a letter from the doctor telling me that I need to phone this number to make an appointment - which I could only get in a months time)
Schools - I know quite a few teachers. They're all trying to get put because of the pressure put on them.
Transport - nuff said
The scary thing is though they're all the same. No one has the balls to change anything for fear of losing revinue (sorry, I meant the publics respect)
Rant over

they are indeed oblivious, but when you say "great country" i believe you refer to the country of the Indians. people came over here and killed the indians to take their land. for us to lose "our" land is only justice. the Indians were willing to die to save their country. the only difference between them and us is that we generally live. we as Americans are used to winning.
sorry but had to put that int here to give ppl a new perspective. people are superficial. thats in their nature. to some degree or another, every human being is superficial. i am on the low end, my mother is on the very very very very high end. she thnks that looks mean everything. those circles of friends are the ones that think they are better than other because of the way they dress, drive, the kind of car they have, how expensive their sofa is, how hot their girlfriend is, and how highly others think of them. politicians are not all equal. some actually want to help the country, others just want the high paying career that makes others look up to them *cough*Bill Clinton*cough*....excuse me.....and as far as selling the country for votes, i dont think they would do that. then they would have no one that respects them enough to care about their new golf set. they might sell their mother though. thats probably how they got the golf clubs.....bastard...

If you're talking about the United States, I think the voters have to share some of the blame. They keep voting in politicians that are only interested in helping out their favorite special interest groups and big business.

People point fingers at politicians all the time when the fact of the matter is that these politicians are no different from you or I. Politicians aren't made out of thin air. Not enough people are being educated correctly these days.

It's not the politicians fault. Maybe you should join a grassroots group and see about making some changes happen in the world. It is people like you that can make the difference.

No. The Sovereign American People are responsible for the decline of this once great country. Somewhere along the line, we started taking these guys way too seriously and stopped reminding them that they work for us.

No. Those politicians didn't just spontaneously "appear" in the Positions they came to fill. -Uninformed voters put them there. We have GOT TO do a BETTER job of checking out & nominating persons whose interests are OURS- & NOT theirs. It's really gotten kinda pathetic- that we've begun to cry "impeachment!"- halfway through the terms of politicians WE elected just a couple of years earlier! If we did it RIGHT in the FIRST place, we wouldn't HAVE to be counting the months until the NEXT Election- when we can boot them out. :(

It's not the politicians that are responsible, it's the people! The people who want to elect someone to fix all their problems and take care of them...plug in and be a part of the solution and you'll find we all have a part in the responsibility for what our country becomes....

Yeah, politicians take a lion share of the blame. But is not just the politicians, it is all our greed and selfishness at work.
Look at all the special interest groups and lobbyist in D.C.
We lost our morality as a nation and forgot how to blush.
Good men likewise, have chose to remain silent. We are all to blame!
