Some things aren't adding up in the cop and his wife's story... his wife has been blogging telling everybody the dog was a big part of their family, blah blah blah, the cop is devastated, etc.. The story is that the guy got back from a second shift, had the dog in the car, then immediately got a call about his kid being in an auto accident and he simply forgot about the dog. When your dog is a "big part of the family" and hasn't been seen or heard from for several hours, wouldn't someone in that family go off looking for him? The Chandler PD wanted to brush this under the rug and let the guy off with not even a slap on the wrist until the public found out. At a minimum this guy has to lose his command of the K-9 unit.

The public is stepping up while the Chandler PD takes another crap on the poor dog:

I think he should be prosecuted...What a horrible way to die! He should also lose his job as a cop and never be allowed to serve in that capacity again; someone so stupid, thoughtless, and careless should not be on the force.

Wow that's amazing! Those guys are usually really protective of their dogs. They don't tell the whole story in the article, I'm guessing he forgot the dog was in the vehicle, maybe ran in to do something and got distracted. Still, he should be charged with animal cruelty/neglect at the very least, that's what a civilian would've been charged with if they'd forgotten their dog in the car. And, he should be removed from the K9 unit as well in my opinion. He shouldn't get off with it just because he's an officer.

According to the article he's committed at least a misdemeanor so I would say yes.

As for my opinion, I think he should be fired from the Chandler PD. Such an act of absent-minded (well I hope it was absent-minded) cruelty is not the sort of thing that can be tolerated in a police officer. It doesn't necessarily mean he deserves to be shot as some of the wackos have threatened over the phone, but such a failure of responsibility can't be allowed to continue.

First of all, I don't think any K9 dog should be a "big part of the family". They are not pets, they are cops! And while one of the possible duties of a K9 is to in a sense replace a human cop being killed, this was indeed a dereliction of duty. Temporary suspension without pay and booted out of K9 division! That would be the minimum. And of course there should be an IAB review just as if both partners were human. But just how far can you go! I mean they are letting illegal immigrants charged with child rape out on bail in NJ and crap like that and some of you want this guy to go to prison! Let's fix the rest of the system first.

That's a very sad story, indeed. I think it's important to know if the officer in question left his partner in the car on purpose or by accident. If it was an accident, I'm sure that he is devistated about the loss of his partner due to his carelessness. However, if he was simply being cruel, then he should be charged with killing a police officer. This type of neglect should be on the same level as a cop taking the bullets out of his partners gun before sending him into a shootout.

The wife's story as you state it in your 'additional information' sounds fishy to me. If I had just returned home and received a call that my son had been in an accident, I would get back in the car the dog was in to rush to the scene. How can you forget about a dog in the car you are driving?

Yes he should, and it should be a felony charge of murder,or,felony aggravated battery,(Seeing that this was a cop),so the cop ought to be charged as a cop killer!
What a "dog gone" shame!
I hope they "collar" this guy!
Imagine how his "paw" must feel.
I hope someone is "tailing" the perpetrator!
I hope the prosecutor doesn't "roll over" on this one.
O.K.,..I'll stop,..."Seeing eye dog"ged this issue to the bone!

(sorry, folks,I got a little carried away!)
