Some causes of black mucus:
1] inhaling smoke - near a large campfire or housefire
2] spending a day in a polluted city [ yes, you blow out black the next day
3] some old dried blood - from a small bleed, or an old scrape
As long as you have no fresh bleeding, or any other symptoms of infection [ fever, pain, aching head ]; I wouldn't worry about it.
Coat the inside of your nose with a layer of vaseline before you go to bed - use a Qtip. Sounds weird, but it works!

If you get black mucus coming out of your nose that most likely means you have a sinus infection. It can also be a post nasal drip. Does the mucus come with pain and discomfort? No matter what, I would recommend you going to see your local otorhinolaryngologist. Most likely, you will receive general antibiotics to boost up your immune system. This mucus is definitely the sign of an infection and i suggest you go see a doctor as soon as possible.

Black mucous? Not necessarily an infection, but definitely something going on.
I'm assuming from the little info I have that black is actually really dark brown, which indicates to me that it's "old blood." Old blood, meaning, like a day or two old, or slow-moving blood. Blood tends to darken the older it is outside the body.
I'd go to a doc right away. Bleeding from any extremity is not "normal."
Good luck!
