Shampoo/wash every component that you can,(you can even get a deodorizer to help extract the smell). If that's too much effort, pitch the couch.

One other option is to have someone come in to "professionally" clean it for you.

Keep in mind, none of these options will be effective until you've removed the cat's carcass from this couch !

Sorry about your cat!
Next time you flop down on the couch, and you hear a muffled scream, get up immediately, and take a look around in there!

If he has only been in your house for five days, the likelihood is that he will make his way back to where he used to live. I can remember many years ago moving house and taking our cat with us to the new house, which was around 5 or 6 miles away. Same thing happened in as much that the cat disappeared one day and turned up back at the house we had moved from. It took him a couple of days to get back but he made it and the amazing thing was that he knew exactly how to get back from somewhere he had never been to before. If you know where your cat used to live, it may be worth checking there to see if he has 'gone home'.

It's probably not the smell you should be worried about, it's the sanitation of your home.

Now I ask you - Why do you want to keep a piece of furniture that your pet died on? Do you really want to sit on it again? You don't need to buy cat food anymore, get a new couch.

Easy. Put the couch on the curb and get thee to Ikea (or your favorite local furniture chain)

the main way to do it is to air it out, normally 3 or 4 days aired out would work, i just hope you have another seat to use until then, i'm not even going to ask how or why the cat died.

im just hoping this is a bad joke.

My friend had the same problem with a rat. She couldn't get the smell of of her car! I wish I could remember what she used. It worked, though!

check for professional grade cleaners that specify that they are good for necrotic odors.. (or similar terminology).. I had a dead mouse in a mattress that I had in storage for 2 years and it worked.. (I can't think of a brand name.. it was something my mother gave me from a medical convention)

here's one that should work

but do a search for necrotic odor cleaner and you should be able to find others as well.
