1. Dogs and other pets we love are without soul?
2. They do not get into heaven?
3. Is it a wonder then that the worst abusers of animal rights are deeply religious people?

Mitt Romney keeps the family golden retriever on the roof of his car for hours, at freeway speeds, till the dog defecates all over the carrier and itself. Mr. Romney pulls over at a service station, hoses off the car and the dog, and continues their trip.

What an assshole!

Collette... Your lack of research does not make what Romney did to that poor dog untrue. Instead of asking people on Y!A, why don't you go google the story and make up your own mind.

Randy G... Romney is not a christian. Why don't you research what Islam thinks of dogs in particular.

My religion honors animals. We (and many other denominations) have a blessing of the animals every year on the feast of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals. I have been involved in animal rescue for years, and have saved any number of animals from euthanasia, neglect and abuse. Every animal in my house was rescued. I feel that kindness to animals is a moral obligation, and my religion would not disagree.

You are assuming all religions are the same. Hindus believe animals are reincarnations of people. There are about 1 billion hindus or so, so their opinion I think carries some weight. Ultimately religion I think has little to do with how people treat animals of how they think of animals. My personal beliefs are not based on religious teachins, personally I rather see domestic animals live their normal lives without any medical treatment as other animals do in the wild, but it is considered animal cruelty and illegal in some instances. The same is true of people, if you look at the teachings of your particular religion in detail, you might be shocked by what it is advocated. I read a few pages from the bible in detail and if we don't mischaracterize what it actually says, it advocates such things as slavery and it tends to suggest God is a gold digger, which I suppose explains greedy preachers and religious organizations.

I do not know about romney, but what I do know is the Jewish law concerning animal sacrifice was designed in a way to make it a quick death, as painless as possible.

As a Christian, I found the book below to be extremely valuable on the subject of religion and animals. It is a Jewish book, written by a Rabbi, whose name I cannot recall.

Of course it matters how you treat animals!!

in Islam, and as a muslim, i'm taught that if we treat animals harshly or cruely we could go to hell for that...

there is a hadith that a devout muslim woman was cruel to her cat, locked it in a closet and starved it, and it died. she went to hell for her bad treatment of the animal.

yet, a jewish prostitute gave water to a dog, dying of thirst... and she was rewarded w/ paradise because she was kind to an animal in need of help.

I'm not sure of "specifics" cause i couldn't find anything on such short notice, but Animals do have souls, and they will go to heaven, or at least a part of heaven...

on Judgement Day, the animals that were put in our care (because God/Allah gives you everything you possess, including animals) they will speak either for us or against us. it will towards our good or bad deeds.

we are taught as muslims to be kind to all of Allah's (God's) creations: humans, plants, animals etc...

so i strive my best to obey His commands :0)

this "mitt romney" is a terrible person and will get punished for mistreating an innocent animal. poor dog.

hope this answered your question!

What religion says that animals do not matter. The Bible teaches that humans are made above the animals but it does not say that cruelty to animals is okay. The Mitt Romney story-untrue and you know it.

Oh no it doesn't. Some place in the Bible says that only a wicked man is cruel to his animals. That would be a sick thing to do, although I don't think it's true.No one running for office would be so stupid as to do such a thing before an elecion, or any time for that matter.

I know mostly Christians and we all have a bunch of overly fat pampered pets. Don't know any of these folks you speak of.

Proverbs 12:10 says" A righteous man regardeth the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."

I agree with you that that was inhumane treatment to do that to a dog, but "religion" doesn't justify it. Many people have different religious beliefs, and each religion may have different opinions about the treatment of animals. It is my view that they do have souls and deserve to be treated kindly with love and respect.

When Mitt Romney drinks to much he also defecates on top of the car in traffic. Unfortunately my windshield wiper fluid wasn't getting the Mitt off.
Moral of the story never follow Mitt Romney.
