That's a great site. There are a couple raw feeders on here, I hope they answer your questions. I'm still considering it myself. Good for you and Brandy!

Yes, there is plenty of things you ca do instead of buying the prepackage BARF diets online. Search through google and read more about your options. There are tons of them. When searching, search for "raw diet", not barf. There is a really good group in yahoo that you should join as well, http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/. Even if your looking for info, this place has alot.

I just started feeding my two boxer puppies raw food and all their skin problems have gone away. It is definately the healthiest way to go.

When thinking about what to feed them, I would start mainly with chicken. And this means the chicken that you buy and cook for yourself and your family. If it's healthy for your family, why wouldnt it be healthy for your dog?

Remember, do not cook the meat when giving it to your dog. If you cook it, you lose alot of the nutrition, and the bones end up getting softer (which is harder for a dog to swallow). When starting off, I recommend giving them chicken wings, legs, quarters and then experimenting with other foods. The correct amount to feed your dog is 1-2% their body weight through the day.

Also, to help improve the skin, give your dog raw eggs, it will really help their coat shine. Good luck!

First of all, it is important to know that the BARF diet doesn't work for all dogs, especially those with sensitive stomachs. The BARF diet will quite literally make your dog barf if you abruptly switch her over to it from her current diet. There is a book I think will help you out a lot, called Poodles For Dummies, that has a really good section on different feeding methods, and the BARF diet is in there. Good luck!

I misclicked and ended up in the dog section even though I'm a cat person. But I can help you anyway by pointing you to some other places.

There are a lot of raw feeding Yahoo groups that you can join. Some are for cats, some for dogs and some for both.

If you join any or all of them they'll be able to help you. There's no fee for joining any of them.

Just go to Yahoo, Groups and search for barf. Also search for raw feeding.
