Why does nearly every pagan/wiccan ask a question, and then EXPECT Christians to flame them? Is it guilt? A victim complex? What gives?

I am not a pagan (pronoucned the way it's spelled---pay-gan---with a hard "g"). I am a Catholic priest. I am not going to use inflammatory remarks nor will I insult any who are pagan and wiccan. Yet, you have asked a very good question and I would like to help answer it.

Pagan, the original understanding of this word meant "foreignor" or any one who was not of the Roman Empire. One could be Egyptian, highly educated, sophisticated, and yet if they were not part of the Empire or spoke Latin, they were considered Pagan.
There is really no difference between Pagan and Wiccan if you take the original meaning of Pagan. These would be foreign to mainstream Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Judaism (sp?).
So, I hope you found this answer helpful. I know others (even Christians) use the term in a pejorative and insulting fashion. However, when I use it the meaning comes from its original intent. May the Lord bless and keep you. May the light of His face shine upon you.

God's and your beast of burden

Pay-gan

The differance is that Wiccan refers to a specific set of beliefs. Pagan is a broader term.

You will often see something along the following lines "Wiccans are Pagans, but not all Pagans are Wiccans"

For example, I am not Wiccan but I AM a Hellenic Pagan

you're going to get tons of answers on this i'm sure, but i'm going to take my 2 points and run.
pagan is pronounced "pay gan"
wicca is a nature based religion that usually holds a belief in a god and goddess. sometimes the goddess is favored more than the god, but that's usually by people new to the path and sick of the patriarchial system.
at it's simplest, pagan means anyone who doesn't follow the christian religion (hindus, buddhists, atheists, wicccans, witches, etc)
but really, their just labels. some people get upset if they are wiccan and you call them a witch. other people get upset if they are a witch and you call them wiccan. for some people the two terms are interchangeable.

Pagan is pronounced with a long 'a' sound in the first a. Pay-gun. I consider myself Pagan, not Wiccan. I don't believe in the rede or the threefold law, and found Wicca to have too many rules for my taste. I really like to do my own thing.

PAY-gan.

I'm a pagan but not a wiccan. I celebrate pagan holidays and the life cycle but I don't believe in deities except as symbols and archetypes (I'm also a Taoist). I meditate and occasionally cast but only when I have a specific purpose. My spiritual path is all about daily life.

Wicca is just one among the Paths of Neo-Paganism, while the term could cover a great ground of Pre-Christian Religions, and newer Paths started by Reconstructionalists/ Reformists....

Pronunciation - look up in your dictionary, too lazy to look on the www,

Regards...

P.S. - 'atheist' - as the Christians love to 'flame' word-wise nowadays most of non-Christians... they've had a habit of murdering when the Christianity was becoming an official religion, if you have any doubts... do a search... look for forced conversions, witch trials etc.

Paaa-gaaaan. PA_GAN.
Wicc, like a wick of a candle. aaaaaan. WICK AN.

A Pagan is one that believes in any sort of a Deity, Supernatural in essence. But not one of TOTAL DIVINATION.
Its more or less, beauty, farming, wind, and so forth.

A Wiccan, believes in an Earthly Deity other than themselves. Such as Isis, Rae, or any Earthly deity. That has TOTAL DOMINION over the Earth, and ONLY the Earth.

The difference between Religion, and being either a Pagan or Wiccan is..........................

Religion believes that a SUPERNATURAL BEING has total DOMINION over not only the Earth, but DOMINION over all that exists. And also CREATED all that exists.

Where as Pagans which includes Wiccans, believe in EARTH BOUND DIETIES, and deals with nothing of all existance.

PAY-gan.

Pagan (or Neo-Pagan) is an umbrella term used to describe a cluster of related religions, usually earth-focussed and polytheistic. Wicca is one of the Neo-Pagan religions. So: all Wiccans are Neo-Pagans, but not all Neo-Pagans are Wiccans.

"PAY-gin" (with a hard "g" like in "golf", rhymes with "win")

Difference between Wicca and Paganism -

Pagan is a broad umbrella term, Wicca is one of the religions under that umbrella.

All Wiccans are Pagans. Not all Pagans are Wiccans.

(Similarly, all Lutherans are Christians, but not all Christians are Lutherans)
