Yes, you are responsible. Our truck was stolen, someone took it to South Florida and sold it. When the person who bought it tried to register it in her name, of course it showed on the computers as stolen. The police impounded it and contacted us. We had to pay the storage fees for the impound yard, even though we were the victims fo a crime.

You may be entitled to recovery of the funds for recovery from insurance, but the insurance will only pay YOU directly, not the tow company. So you pay, get a receipt, and when everything is finally sorted out turn in the receipt to be reimbursed for your costs. I really doesn't matter who arranged for the recovery, you don't expect the police to pay the bill for your car do you? As far as not being told, common sense would tell you that service doesn't come free.

My neighbour had his stolen. The police found it, told him and then had it lifted and taken to a garage to be inspected by forensics, when they were finished they phoned and said he could have it back but the garage wanted 200 pounds towage even though the car was found near enough to push home. Surely if the police wanted it they should cover costs, or at least given him the chance to arrange his own lift, and why did he have to pay for storeage because police didn't have time to look at it? This area needs looked at.

In the US the price is pre-negotiated with the tow-truck company and the jurisdiction where the car was left. You have to pay them to get the car back. They charge storage fees by the day. Get the car inspected to determine the pre-loss value to use in negotiating with the insurance company. Talk with an attorney who specialized in Auto Accidents for good advice.

YOur third party will not cover this. Surly you did not expect someone to recover you r car for free. Was the accident your fault? If so tough if not you may have a claim against the thrid party for your losses and costs as a result of the accident

As you only have Third Party insurance, the only thing that your insurance covers is any damage done to another vehicle.
Any other charges that has incurred must be covered by yourself.

Yes because you own the car..if you want to get the money back..you will have to wait until the report shows it was truly the other guys fault and then submit copies of your receipts to the the other guys insurance company for reimbursement.

I'm afraid the recovery companies don't work for nothing, you're going to have to pay. I'm taking it there was no-one else involved and you aren't claiming off their insurance.

you are stuck with the payment, sorry to say, usually the police departments have a towing company that they call , so if your vehicle was towed you will have to pay, selling the car for scrap might pay the bill, good luck
