At the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. (the year of our Lord) for those of you under the age of 30. They had a big church council to try to define Our Lord and savior. I have a copy of the whole Creed. It is contradictory at best. They thought that they defined the Father and the Son, but they didn't get around to the Holy Ghost. The Apostles Creed was written in 450 A.D. and not written by a true believer.

*** rs p. 405 Trinity ***
What is the origin of the Trinity doctrine?
The New Encyclopædia Britannica says: “Neither the word Trinity, nor the explicit doctrine as such, appears in the New Testament, nor did Jesus and his followers intend to contradict the Shema in the Old Testament: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord’ (Deut. 6:4). . . . The doctrine developed gradually over several centuries and through many controversies. . . . By the end of the 4th century . . . the doctrine of the Trinity took substantially the form it has maintained ever since.”—(1976), Micropædia, Vol. X, p. 126.
The New Catholic Encyclopedia states: “The formulation ‘one God in three Persons’ was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century. But it is precisely this formulation that has first claim to the title the Trinitarian dogma. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective.”—(1967), Vol. XIV, p. 299.

As many of the others have said, it was at the Council of Nicea or the Nicean Creed. There was alot of confusion, just like there is today about the characteristics and traits of God. And with all of the many different translations of the Bible, who can blame them for the confusion. You can ask any Bible scholar and they'll tell you that there are contradictions in the Bible because of it being re-translated and re-translated. People that copied the records weren't very educated or didn't know how to read and write. So, all they did was copy the characters, like drawing. They missed paragraphs, copied some down wrong, etc... There's a scripture that says that God is a spirit (John 4:24). There another that says we were created in God's image, in His own likeness. Others that say they are one God (see also John 17:20-23 where Jesus is praying for us to be One with Him and He is with His Father - in unity and purpose). Then there multiple scriptures that say that Jesus was seen standing at the right hand of God (like at the stoning of Stephen - Acts 7:55-56; Mark 16:19) or like at Jesus' baptism - 3 beings in 3 separate places (Matthew 3:13-17). Some believed that they were one in the same, and others believed that they are 3 separate beings. So, the early Roman Catholic Church wanted a standard doctrine because so many leaders believed so differently and there was so much confusion. That's where they all voted on the doctrine and is what they have today.
To find out for yourself, you can't just go off of one scripture. Study it all and pray and find out for yourself.

The doctrine of the Trinity is the result of continuous exploration by the church of the biblical data, argued in debate and treatises.[1] It was expressed in early writings from the beginning of the second century forward.[1] The First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD established a nearly universal Trinitarian dogma and expressly rejected any heresies. The most widely recognized Biblical foundations for the doctrine's formulation are in the Gospel of John.[

Big thumbs up to 4HIM for getting the best most explicit verse to answer this question.
I John 5:7 "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one".
BTW, in case any are confused, Jesus is the Living Word.
John lived and wrote in the first century (before the year 100) so all Nicene references are about debate of the doctrine, not the origin of the doctrine.

Do you understand what the
"Trinity" are? They are God
the Father, God the Son, and
God the Holy Sprit. One
God in 3 (spiritual) persons.
They have existed since before
time began and will exist when
time is no more.

It sort of depends on what you mean by "introduced". The christian communities spent the first couple of centuries arguing among themselves about Jesus' divinity, semi-divinity or non-divinity. Once they got that figured out, they began tearing into the problem of how & in what what the Holy Spirit was related (or not related) to the Father & the Son. The basic outline of trinitarian theology was hammered out between about 320 CE and 420 CE.

It was never introduced, just like 2+2 was always there although there was A time we did not know it. It was discovered would be a better way of putting it. Jesus was worshiped as God right from the start you can see this in the book of Acts when Tomas see Jesus after his resurrection and worships him and God. He says my lord and my God. however it took about 2 century's before the church brought it as doctrine at the council of nicea, if thats how that is spelled. But always remember it is not what the man say but what the bible says. look to it to see if Jesus is GOd do a trinity study and you will see how clear it is in the bible. Man only discovered this about the nature of God, even though it has been his nature from the start. GOd Chose to revile this to us in the bible.

Matt 28:19, Genesis????? are you kidding me. That no more proves that there is a Trinity then that I am in fact in the trinity. Because they are mentioned together??? Really? If I tell my friend that YOU, the guy who posted this, and ME all typed on this computer site- are we a trinity?
If my wife and I make a child in our image are we then a trinity?
Think for yourself.
