So I finally found a way to combine my two dream jobs. I want to become sometype of engineer, however I want to work part-time at the local fire station. The fire Dept. is more of a family thing, (I would be the fourth generation fire firefighter, and if I become chief then I would be a fourth generation Fire Chief) It is pretty neat, and it is something that I want to do. I can join when I turn 16 (Which is November) and become a cadet.

So for my job I would like to become an engineer who works on designing Fire Engines. What type of degree would I need? Or what type of degree should I pursue.

All help is appreciated. THANKS.

Mechanical engineering would be the first choice. If you want to make a really big impact on big buildings, you might consider specializing in fire protection instead of fire engines. You can be a chemical engineer and do that, but mechanical engineers do it too.

Mechanical Engineering, if you want to design vehicles. But you would be working for GM or Ford, not the fire department.
