Hi, I just joined the US Army, and am waiting to ship off to OSUT then airborne school (I'm 11B). I'm also going in as an E-3 (schooling).

I was wondering after I'm done with my schools/training, and I get my duty station (assuming I'm not in Iraq/Afghanistan) if she'll be able to live with me on base?

former infantry sgt and airborne myself.

1. Being single, the millitary is required to provide on post housing to you..in the form of barracks.
2. More often than not...you will have to share a room with another soldier in your platoon at your rank.
3. Females technicaly are not allowed in the barracks after a certain time every night. And when females are in a room in the barracks, the doors are supposed to remain open.
(however, in practice the doors don't remain open and often times the CQ sgt will over look a female spending the night on weekends if you and her remain quiet and don't advertise her presense.) This only happens when you are in good standing with the CQ and with the company. They will look the other way unless you make it so that they have no choice but to enforce the rules.
4.The army will not pay for you to live offpost until you are at a sgt with some seniority and they need the space in the barracks.
5. She can get an appartment offbase.
6. You can actually stay at the apartment with her as long as you aren't late for formations and don't miss movements.
6a. If you have an apartment with her..be sure that everyone from your team leader on up has the phone number to the apartment so that they can get ahold of you..and I would suggest having a cell phone as well.
6b. You will still be required to maintain your room in the barracks and keep it clean.
6c. If your staying offpost becomes a problem becuase you are late for formations or miss movements than you chain of command may and probably will order you to stay in the barracks indefinitly. if you show that you can make formations on time than they will loosen the leash however if you are still late than they will issue an article 15.
7. Ultimatily it is up to your chain of command wether or not to allow you to continue to sleep off base. As long as it doesn't become a problem for them, they generaly will not care.

When you go to your unit you will get a room in the Barracks. This will be one room with room for a bed and desk and dresser (all provided for you) and a small bathroom. You may or may not have to share the room. Since you are single you will not be entitled to live in a house or even get an apartment - the Army won't pay for that. Even if you tried to pay for it out of your pay it most likely wouldn't work because your lease has to be authorised by your command. In order for your girlfriend to live with you you will need to marry her. When you marry her you will either get a house on base free of rent, or you will get an allowance to rent something off base. Good luck with your career!

You wont have base housing, as only married personnel get housing. You will probably have to live on base in the barracks. There are some special circumstances where non married personnel can live off post and get BAH, but there aren't many. They wont pay for housing for a girlfriend. That would get pretty expensive! Sorry, you might have to foot the bill yourself, and even then, you will have to get permission to live off post.

no... lol why do people think this? This the 3rd question I seen like this in 2 days on here..The only way she can live with you on post is if you get married. If they gave housing to soldiers just because they had a girlfriend (or a boyfriend if they are female soldiers) there would be no need for barracks.. everyone would have a gf/bf just to get out of the barracks

No. Not at all. You have to get married first.

You will have to live in the barracks. You will more then likely have a room of your own and share a bathroom with another soldier.

When you get a high enough rank, you may have to live off base. Then you could live together, even though your not supposed to, but nobody enforces it.

Not on post unless you're married (and it IS post - not base fyi...)

You'll be assigned to the barracks as you're single, and if you're 11B and Airborne, you'll likely be in the 82nd at Bragg - and you'll have to have permission to live off post (last I knew - might have changed).

Good luck! My hubby loves jumping.

No, she will not be able to live with you. You will be living in the barracks. If you marry her you can apply for on-post housing.

No, you cannot get on base housing until you're married, and they won't give you BAH for off post housing either.
