How does going to Arlington Cemetery pay honor to the real heroes? It really doesn't. Acknowledge them every day, no matter where you are. If you see someone in a military uniform (even it's just someone from your nearby National Guard), say thank you or smile and give a thumbs up.

First of all... US society does focus on the wrong things. Such as Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton for example even though a war is going on.
Secondly... not everyone in the Army went to Vietnam. Not everyone that was drafted went to Vietnam. That doesnt make their service any less. There was the threat of the USSR invading, there were soldiers in S. Korea that were often in fire fights with the N. Koreans, but it was never covered because of Vietnam. All did thier parts.

The great thing about living in a Democracy is the people can choose what they want to do with their money and time.
If it gives them pleasure to visit the home and grave of one of the greatest musicians of all time, then that's their right.
Elvis in his day bought happiness and joy to millions, I can't recall any body being overjoyed by the death of a loved one in combat, in when in the service of his country.
Elvis went into the military and went over to Germany, he did his service, the way he was ordered to.
And whats with all this Vietnam era vet stuff, were you even a member of the 10% who were actually a combat vet or were you a REMF.

People are selfish. They worship and will bid on a piece of gum chewed by a celebrity on e-bay. They would rather concentrate on worrying about what makes them happy than to think about the war and the heroes who died for them.
I doubt most people visit the gravestones of people they knew, yet alone deceased veterans.

People are simply more impressed with celebrity. Chalk it up to a stressful complex world where people want to escape from the grim serious realities of life and think about their favorite singer or whatever. Thank You for serving your country. You are a great American. Sincerely, Tracy

I have never, nor will I ever, pay a visit to Elvis Presley's grave. I have paid my respects to all those who served and died in the military in a public ceremony on November 11th.
