Does it make you cringe when someone says God brought them happiness? Do you think it's a cop out? When is someone preaching and not just speaking of their beliefs?

I think someone is preaching when they start associating me and religion in the same sentence.
Someone can claim all day long they are so happy because of religion, and I will just say "good for you".
It's when they start saying I would be happier with religion that I tend to get a little cranky.

Yes it makes me cringe.

Because if God brought them happyness what did he bring to the victims of the Peru earthquake, or the tsunami a few years back?

Just because the drunk is happy does not make alcoholism a good thing.

Someone is preaching when they try to push their beliefs onto someone else with no hard evidece to support it.

Saying that god make them happy is not preaching. (Just trite.)

Saying that I need to believe in god to be happy myself is.

It doesn't make me cringe. Instead, I'm glad that they're happier, but I wonder at what cost they are now "happier." There are various forms of happiness that are based on denial of reality, and if that's the source of happiness, it means they have sacrificed awareness and intellectual integrity. I personally would not trade those any sort of "happiness" because I consider it built on false ideas. I do believe happiness is possible without sacrificing either one, but it requires a certain amount of discipline, focus, patience, and care.

It makes me cringe when people say anything that is to fanatical. God defiantly outlined how we can be happy. It does bug me when people have the Born Again Glow. Classy eyed dazed look with perma smile.

Yeah, I guess I do sort of cringe. I can't help it...it just sounds delusional to me. Like anyone else would cringe if someone else started saying that invisible hippos talk to them.

Does it make you cringe when someone says God brought them happiness?

~Yes, when that God orders them to kill innocent people for an orgy with 72 virigns in heaven or tells them to kill and discriminate against homosexuals

No I don't cringe when someone says their deity brings them happiness... that's their business and has nothing to do with me. So long as you aren't trying to twist my arm to make me believe or trying to hijack secular law to make me live under your religious doctrine then I'm good.

Nah.

But if they said God BOUGHT them happiness, I'd be really jealous.

I only consider it preachy when they expect me to agree with them!

Otherwise, I don't care what they choose to believe. If it makes them happy and isn't hurting anyone, who am I to belittle them?
