Newborn. But the doctor will want assurance that the parents will look after them.
Same for your son; doctor will ask you whether you think your son will care for them properly and whether you are willing to assume responsibility of supervising him. If you think your son will not look after them well, consider daily disposables.

I have read of cases where infants wear contacts. Obviously, the parent(s) are responsible for inserting, removing, and keeping them clean in that case.
The reason an eye doctor may suggest you wait is purely a maturity factor and not an age limit in a book somewhere!

Alot of doctors like to wait until a child is 12 because of maturity and responsibility levels. I put my daughter in contacts at 9 and taught her how to put them in and take them out myself. However, I have been an optician for 10 years so it was quite easy for me to work with her at home. If your child is able to put them in and take them out and also responsible enough to properly clean the lenses then I would say go for it. Just make sure they take their solution, a case and their glasses to school in case they lose a lens or their lenses feel irritated. That way you do not get called to school to bring eyeglasses or an extra contact.

ok, well let's see. I have contacts. i got mine this year. My cousin got her's also, and she is 6. The doctor will give you contacts, but you have to be responsible, because if you get something in your eye, or don't clean the lenses, or put them in the wrong way, they might scratch your cornea. My cousin is very mature for her age, so the doctor allowed her to. It just really depends on if the child is ready for them yet.

I had a friend who got her first pair in fifth or sixth grade (age ten or eleven). As long as your son is responsible, the eye doctor should agree with you when you do make your decision. I'm getting contacts tomorrow, and many of my friends have contacts (five or six of them) and we're only in eighth grade.

Talk to your parents first to see if they support your decision. If they do, or if they have reservations about it, then talk to your optometrist. While I personally have never had contacts, I did have a cousin who was around 15 or 16 when she had her first pair. When I was 18, my doctor told me that my eye prescription was perfect for contacts. Based on that, it all depends on your prescription as well. Then once your parents and your doctor agree that contacts are right for you, then he/she can show you how to insert them correctly and take care of them as well.

i don't really think there is an age limit. as long as you are responsible enough to take out your contacts and not be careless with them you can get them. if there was an age limit, I would think maybe somewhere between 8-11. but its just an opinion.... i think you can get em.
