If it is someone who believes that the Bible is the absolute Word of GOD then that is a Christian...what the heck is a "fundie" and why is everyone so afraid of them?

You know, I am not really offended if someone calls me that. Because I am God's child and He knew my name long before I was born. Offense leads to bitterness and unforgiveness. I choose to love those that do not want to have any business with me because of my love for Jesus.

God Bless You!

Actually, amongst people who define themselves as Christian, there are varying opinions on that matter - from those who insist that every word in the Bible is literally, absolutely true, to those who believe that at least some of the text can be taken metaphorically or allegorically. Those on the literal side, to differentiate themselves from other Christians, usually refer to themselves as Fundamentalists. It is from that term that the somewhat derogatory nickname "fundie" derives.

I'm a Christian. I think, by 'fundie' atheists mean legalistic Christians who think their form of faith should apply to everyone, perhaps be the law. And in my view, some of these beliefs are outrageously ignorant and unchristian.
Which is why I get some violations from Christians here. They can't laugh at themselves and that's really sad.

Plus they do more harm for the cause of Christ than good.

Sending you a smile to help pick up your day.

"Fundie," means Fundamentalist, which pretty much means a Christian that believes the whole Bible and tries their best to follow God's laws. No evolution, no abortion, no homosexuality, etc.

I'm what atheists call a "Fundie." :)

Atheists hate us because we try to reach those who don't know Christ. They HATE mission work.

When I lived in Kenya a "Fundie" was an Asian Indian name for a skilled worker and they were commanded quite a lot of respect due to these skills. It had nothing to do with religion but I believe it was a Sikh word.

Yep, a fundie believes the bible is literally the word of God. I question their intelligence. Would God be so full of hate and bigotry? How about the hundreds of contradictions! Would a perfect deity make mistakes in His supposed book?

"Fundie" is short for a Fundamentalist Christian. The movement has often come to be associated with closed-mindedness, homophobia, censorship, self-righteousness and bigotry, and that is why many people dislike Fundamentalists. Because the loudest Fundamentalists are often in the media expressing these viewpoints, people don't often realize that not every Fundamentalist behaves in this way. The phrase has been around at least since the 1920s (Rev. Harry Fosdick was openly preaching against Fundamentalism as early as 1922), but the term became popular again with Jerry Falwell and his "Moral Majority" in the late 1970s.

Just consider the possibility that you are wrong. Are you making logical decisions? No? Fundie.

A fundamentalist Christian. Someone who feels it is their right to condemn anyone who does not share their views to Hell. They slander gays and non-Christians, people who believe in evolution and other Christians (such as Catholics) on a regular basis and are not above pushing their beliefs on others, using scare tactics or lying to try and gain converts.
Jerry Falwell showed what a fundie truely is when he stated
after the September 11, 2001 attacks "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'" Fellow evangelist Pat Robertson concurred with his sentiment. They should scare true Christians more than anyone because their ignorance and bigotry hurt the religion of Christianity the most.
