but i have also heard that mary went on to have more children

There had been a rumor about someone finding the Bone Box of James, brother of Jesus. It was a big deal a couple of years ago. After and very long investigation it seems that this Bone Box was a fake and the stories about Jesus having a brother have faded.

Hope this helps.

Catholicsm does not believe that she had any other children, there is proof that Joseph, who was a widower when he married Mary, was father to some children, prior to meeting and marrying Mary. The Koran actually is the basis of one of the proofs used by Catholicism, because she was taken to live out her life to Ephesus, now Kusadasi Turkey, predominantly Muslim and they have held that tradition as long as she lived there.
The Protestant viewpoint is that since it isn't in the Bible ( but then again a lot is not in the Bible, if they included every detail the story would never have ended and secondly it has no relevance on the importance of the Gospel). Another reason is since they mention the brothers of Christ ( a term used in those days by those who were friends and close followers), then she must have had others, but that is not the tradition, and actually not one of the points of seperation from the Church during the reformation, it came much later, and still is one of the seperating factors to this date.
Take care and God bless.

i find it absurd for people to qestion's mary's virginity after she had jesus. The fact is there are texts on the bible that makes us understand she was for ever virgin. To list a few,

some people have an issue with matthew 1 : 24 regarding "joseph didn't know mary until she gave birth to jesus" the word until doesn't mean he had sexual relationship with her after that, to back this up, the bible says the following,

1)Matt 28.20: "..and surely I am with you always, until the end of the age." when jesus said this to his disciples, he didn't mean he wasn't going to be with them after.

some people think jesus had brothers & sisters quoting matthew13:5 as evidence but the fact this there many examples in the bible that shows someone doesn't have to be born from the same mother to be called a brother or sister, ie,
Gen 14:14 "And when Abram heard that his Brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan."

The "brother" referred to here is Lot. Lot was the son of Aran, Abram's own dead brother (Gen 11:26-28). He was therefore Abram's Nephew, even though the text refers to him as a "brother".

3) A. While James and Joses are mentioned as Jesus's brothers in Matthew 13:55, it is made clear in Mathew 27:56 and Mark 15:40 that their mother was another Mary.
Matthew 27:56 "Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons."

This "other Mary" at the Cross, is revealed in John 19:25 to be the wife of Cleophas. Mary of Cleophas is therefore revealed as the mother of two of Jesus's so-called "brothers", James and Joses.
and finally, if James and Joseph, Simon and Jude, were children of Mary, and if Jesus had even more brothers and sisters, why did Jesus commit His Mother to the care of St. John at His death? (john 19:27) so all of u doubts , be ashamed.

The Bible teaches that she did have children after Jesus.
Joseph was to not have 'relations' - sex with Mary until she had given birth to Jesus, after that they 'knew eachother' and the gospels inform us that he had brothers and sisters. For example James the brother of Jesus whom historians acknowledge as a real person.

Mary did not have other children after Jesus. She was a virgin before and after His birth. Aside from Catholics, Muslims show such great honor and respect for the Blessed Mother!!

It is what is is, whether you believe or not.

The Catholic Church has maintained the perpetual virginity of Mary. Even Calvin and Luther believed in it.

The concept that Mary had other kids is a VERY recent heresy, I am constantly amazed that people will discount all of the consistent teachings from the bible, history, and the Church with no problem and yet instantly take a work of admitted FICTION that had only one purpose, (make money) as FACT.

And they call Christians gullible!

Peace!

I have to say it's absolutely baffling why anyone would insist that Mary remained a virgin all her life. What possible necessity is there in seeing her as such?

The bible clearly teaches that Jesus had sisters and brothers. Why this upsets some "Christian" denominations so.....is a mystery.

as a catholic i believe that she remained a virgin till the day she died, so this would mean no other children.

it is the tradition and faith of the catholic church and i believe it.

Many people believe that she went on to have children.... it is a difference of opinions and translations....

Don't know about the Koran. The Bible tells us that Mary had other children. Two other sons, I believe. I don't think you'll find differences except where one believes God's Holy Bible and another believes some other religious text.

Yes.

Matthew 13

55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this [man] all these things?

Mark 6:3

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
