Oh boy, is *this* a loaded question!! (And a good one.) That city has such a diverse heritage that I don't believe any one group has a proprietary claim. Consequently, it is always going to be an area of dispute and tension. I have long thought that the people of Jerusalem should turn it over to the United Nations. It would not be a city of any nation or ethnic rule. It would simply be a city of the world. Despite the fact that it is one of the oldest cities in the world, it could become the first truly cosmopolitan district on this planet. Even more than Alexandria was. The right of all religions to visit, worship, and live there would be guaranteed by the world community.

I know, it seems naive, but I think it is really do-able.

Well, even in the Bible the Jews invaded the Holy Land at God's behest. So they are not native to the area originally. But are the Palestinians?

Neither Christianity nor Islam existed at the time of the Hebrew conquest, and when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans, there was no Islam and only a fledgling version of Christianity.

I think the argument here is not which religion the region belongs to, but which ethnic group. And I don't think there's a defensible answer, either.

The Jews. God gave us the land and it is ours. Plain and simple. You did not hear Muslims cry over the land until 1948 when Israel was made a nation. It is the first most holy site in Judaism. It is the third most holy site in Islam. I am not sure about Christianity.
God gave the land to the Jews. Under Muslim rule the land fell to ruin. Under Chrsitan rule the land exploded in violence. Under Jewish rule, Muslims and Chrsitians who are peaceful can live well and have nice lives. The problem is that the surrounding countries want Israel wiped off of the map.
That too will never happen.

It should probably made into an international city and not part of any country. The problem with having muslims having sole governance over Jerusalem is that they have shown that they cant govern it in a humane fashion. When the did have control over Jerusalem, Jews were not allowed to travel to the Wailing Wall.

there are many different parts to this question, because it was promised to the jews and then they left and muslims came, then after WW1, the US and UK gave it back to them, but it is "theirs" but it also belongs to the muslims, christians, and jews that were there before. because after all they left and went to places like europe. so i think everyone should be able to live there and there shouldn't be any weapons, because what kind of holy city has tankers? but that is just my opinion. but i really don't understand why it would be holy for christians. anyway, i think they should all live together, and not oppress or kick anyone out, only because they both have claim to it. and they are all legitimate.

Jerusalem is for who lives there in the muslims point of view, Muslims took it twice, they never killed a christian or a jew, as long as they were civilians. muslims are ordered only to kill troops. If a muslim kills a none-muslim civilian for no reason, he is gonna go to hell for sure.

All of them have equal right to it.
Every one of those has possessions and memories there.
Jesus was born in Israel.
The jews lived there a long time a go.
And muslims have the Aqsa Moque which is very important to them.

I just find it ironic three religions that are supposed to be at the core about peace keep killing folks over that crappy piece of land. I f they were all really about love you'd think they could share it but I guess that proves the lack of love produced by religion.

Personally I think the Pagans should take over Jerusalem and do it up right.
