Yes, I have taken job in the past where I couldnt see myself working long term. But I took them with a goal. I repeteadly improved my self to get to the job where I wanted. And it took me 5 years but I love what I do.
Figure out what you are good at, what you would love to do and set up a goal. I tell you, it is never to late to achieve what you want.
Good Luck:)

The answer is "yes". It is worth taking a job you dislike as long as you keep in mind it is a short term thing, a way to cover your expenses, while you're looking for something better.
Even if you have savings that would allow to stay home for a few months until your figure out your potential ideal job, it is worth taking a job you don't like for the following reasons:
- you keep yourself connected to the working environment and having the job question on your mind it would be easier to figure out what you want to do
-you can expand your network
- you can talk to other people and see what jobs they have, and check if that would be an option for you
- you can find out easier what companies are in your new town and what kind of company culture they have

I absolutely have taken jobs just for the paycheck. Personally, I prefer having the security of being able to pay the bills while searching for a job for which you are better suited.
Additionally, I have worked as a recruiter and I never judged someone for leaving a job in search of a job they would be happier in. However, it is looked upon negatively if there is a habitual short-term job record.
If you would like to check out a bunch of places before settling down, you might want to consider working for a temp agency.
Good luck on your job search.

I'm in a job where I earn a decent paycheck, but I don't like what I do. So I've started to look elsewhere. For me, the paycheck isn't as important as self happiness...I hate going home everyday grumpy

If it means the difference between eating and providing some type of quality of life, then perhaps taking a less than desirable job is worth it until one finds that job which one enjoys doing. If one decides to take a less than optimal job, then they MUST pursue their interest in getting a job they love. In the interim, one might want to further their education in order to attain that goal.

Decide what you want to do, Know where you are going and take action to get their. If you need the money do the job and do whatever you want on the side and then once your side business gets going you'll be able to quite what you don't like to do.

It's a tough decision. That's one reason I started my own company. Maybe try finding a contract job until you get something you really want.
