I'm Mormon, so I can only speak on how it relates to Mormons.
Sinners are. Gays are. The only thing about being gay is that they are not allowed to do certain things, like hold the priesthood, and MAYBE have a calling. (A calling is like a responsibility that a person does. It can be every week, like a Sunday School teacher, or it can be less often like a Compassionate Service leader. They last until you are released, but that's usually 2 - 5 years, sometimes 5 - 10 years.) The thought behind the calling thing is that they probably have enough on their minds trying to work through their sexual attraction issues (we believe it can be over come...eventually) and that that should be of paramount concern. As for the priesthood issue, only worthy males may hold the priesthood, and being gay is one of the few things that qualifies as UNworthy.
Sin is sin. There isn't any sin that is worse or better than any other. It's not a sliding scale. Taking a pencil from a business is just as bad as murder. The only One who can determine if one or the other were to keep you out of Heaven is Christ. It could very well be that there will be many gays who make it into Heaven, while many who live perfectly upstanding lives, who never lie, cheat, steal, etc are not admitted. We need to remember that there are sins of COmission as well as sins of Omission. Of the list of sins of comission (if one could actually be made), a person may not have commited even one, but if they DIDN'T do something they should have done - a sin of omission, then they have sinned, and are just as bad as someone who committed every sin (both comission and omission).

If a homosexual man enters a faith, he should abide by the teachings of it even if it contradicts his own belief. Hate the sin, not the sinner is the ideology to work with. If you are gay, don't act like it and you'll be fine. However, if a guy goes around parading saying that he is a gay Christian, that is wrong.
And yes, I am saying to suppress the gay desire. Any desire should be suppressed until you can look at it in a cool, objective manner. This manner this your religion.

Religion itself is a bit hypocritical.
Why preach compassion and love when you're not going to welcome someone just because they're gay?
Gays, lesbians, bisexual, and transgendered folk are humans too.
