Regarding the MANY times they ask questions about eating pork-chops etc... Here is a UNIVERAL answer that the brighter ones should be able to get.

The OT Law was divided into 4 Categories.

1) CIVIL

2) CEREMONIAL.

3) SEPARATENESS.

4) MORAL.

Only (4) the MORAL laws apply to Christians today. Is that clear enough for you?

No more stupid pork-chop questions please.

What you are implying is that the Lord did everything and now you can just sit back and relax. I am afraid you are mistaken. If you love The Lord, you MUST obey Him. You do not obey to be saved. You cannot buy your way into heaven. You do The Lord's Will because The Lord lives in your heart and your only desire is to please Him. In the 10 Commandments you find the essence of God's character. The problem is that most Christians agree with only 9 of them. As soon as you mention: Remember the Sabbath, keep it holy" this is when people start saying the Law was abolished.
Jesus Christ was very clear when He spoke to the disciples about the Law. He did Not come to abolish the Law, He came to fulfill. Matthew 5:17-18
Do we then make void the Law through faith? certainly NOT! On the contrary, we establish the Law. Romans 3:31
Rites and ceremonies connected with the services of the Temple were taken away at the time of the crucifixion. The 10 Commandments are definetly Not rites and ceremonies!
The Law is perfect, Holy, the Law is God.
Now, in reference to your pork comment.
Acts 10:9-16 Peter fell into a trance. He was hungry and he heard The Lord say "Rise, Peter, Kill and eat" Peter answered: No, for I have never eatened anything unclean(forbidden by our Jewish Laws) God answered: If God says something is acceptable don't say it isn't.
THIS VISION DOES NOT TALK ABOUT FOOD IT REFERS TO THE GENTILES...
Acts 10:28 You know that its against the Jewish laws for me to come into a Gentile home. But God has shown me that I should never think of anyone as impure.
THE GENTILES HEAR THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE LORD.
***Sometimes it helps to read the entire chapter or even a few chapters before and after to be able to understand the meaning of God's message.
*Another example-Noah's arc- unclean animals entered the arc in pairs/ clean ones in groups of 7. The Jewish did not exist during Noah's day. No pork rule is for everyone.
God Bless

says whom? you can't just decide the other ones don't matter anymore because they inconvenience you. and how do you decide which laws fit into which category? there isn't a color-coded guide to figuring out which laws you can follow and which you can dismiss. the only thing you can do is pick the ones that already follow what you believe. which is what many christians do. i hear you all saying the OT doesn't matter, and then i see you simultaneously using it to defend your ideas. if it doesn't matter, why is it included in the christian canon?

i'm no bible illiterate. i have a degree in theology and believe me i've been through the damn thing more times than i'd like to remember, and these categories you have provided are hogwash. there is nothing in the bible which is so black and white. if you're so "literate" you should be aware of all the grey areas, fine lines, and missing info. to be found in this book. bible literacy does not a genius maketh; hell kids can memorize verses for hours. if you really want some respect, learn how to question it.

I like the categories you have created. I 90% agree that the moral laws apply today. I think we might split hairs if a law was moral or civil. Is tithing moral? What about the blessing promised if we tithe?

There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated— And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.

LOL...thank you Art...does that include when they mention the shrimp and ear piercing as well?? Sometimes it is kinda fun to play along with the ridiculous questions..like why do you advocate killing your kids..that still totally cracks me up..I cannot even answer half the stuff with a straight face anymore..Hopefully you won't get totally slammed by stupid answers and people twisting more verses..

P.S. MOST Christians do not have anything against the Gay community...which is a pretty big misconception by a lot of non-Christians...We hate sin...not sinners..no matter the sin.
At least I do..Jesus told me to love EVERYONE.

Very good point.

the dietary and atonement/ceremonial rules do not apply to "gentiles." Christianity was God presenting himself to gentiles, not just Jews.

Back in the Old Testament days, God was the God of the Jews. Gentiles were not Jews, and were not subject to the law of the Jews. The Hebrews were God's "chosen people."

Jesus said that he came for everyone, Jew and gentile. The Bible has passages that show that things like circumcision is not required of gentiles.
