Most scientific names are derived from old world languages like Latin that are "dead", they aren't being used as the everyday language by a specific group of people so their meanings don't change over time. So when a Latin or a Latinized word is used to name or describe an organism or a specific part of the anatomy, it will mean the same thing today as it does in 100 years. Scientific naming is also an equalizer, it does not favor one culture's language over another. So if a Japanese doctor/scientist wants to communicate with a Swedish doctor/scientist, they will both use the proper scientific names and terms (not their own language) and they will understand each other. If you are thinking about scientific names of living things, a scientific name has a lot of information about the organism in it. Scientific names include the genus and species name. If you know that a bacterium is in the genus Salmonella, for example, you can guess some of its characteristics based on what is known about other members of the genus Salmonella. Knowing its species (S. enteritis vs. S. typhii for example), will tell you how it differs from other members of the Salmonella group. This is very important in the identification, culture, and treatment of this disease-causing bacteria group. Scientific names are very important to cataloguing and referencing different species.
