I have a white gold wedding ring. I bought Avon ring cleaner and it works really well. I was just wondering if I can clean it once a week with this cleaner or should I not do it so often. If not how often can I clean my engagement ring??

You are just supposed to clean it as often as needed. Also, a good idea is to bring it in to the place you bought it from every 6 months for a super cleaning.

first of all congratulations!

I work at a well known Jewlery chain.

mild soap and water is all you need at home, brush away dirt with an old soft toothbrush. Liquid cleaner sold at your store of choice is mild enough to use as often as your heart wishes.

Careful getting your ring professionally cleaned anywhere but where you bought it... a quick lesson in case no one ever told you- since gold is naturally yellow, to make gold white or any other color, they have to add a diiferent combination of other metals to make the gold white. However, unless they are using a new process which results in "pure white", it still has a yellow tinge to it. So the manufacturers dip it in rhodium to give it that glossy white finish. If you allow a jeweleer other than your own to clean it, you have to be sure to ask them NOT to buff it, as that will take the protective coating off.

however, it could very well wear off on itys own at some point, everyones body chemistry is differnt, so yours might remain the same for ever, or youmight need to get it redipped once a year.
you'll know when it starts to appear yellow around the bottom of the shank (the part of the ring not on top)

as for Avon, I don't know, it should be ok for once a week.

to keep you rings clean longer, take them off when you are putting on makeup and hair "stuff". this assorted crap is what makes your rings look gross early. but allowing your creams, etc to set before putting your rings back on, you are keeping your rings free of debris keeping your sparkle from shining through.

Uh....I wouldnt clean it any more than once a month and I would ditch the avon cleaner, (had a very bad experience with that stuff and the jeweller advised against using it) I bought a cleaning set from my jeweller. It is a dunking solution and a polishing cloth. The cloth works beautifully, really brings back the sparkle in my jewellery. I use the chemical stuff very rarely....I find I dont need it much with the cloth. I would ask the jeweller to recommend something and get rid of the avon!!!

I clean mine at home all the time with a toothbrush and windex, yes, windex. Martha Stewart says hot water and ammonia are just fine for platinum and diamonds and that is pretty much what Windex is. I probably clean mine a few times a week since I work in a hospital and have to Purell like 10 times a day. I also have a sonic cleaner at home that I use about once every couple of months. I think jewelers vary in their recs that they give people about cleaning their ring.

If you are using chemical cleaner don't clean it more than once a month or you may start to pit the gold. Unless you dip your hand in buckets of mud everyday that will be plenty anyway.

If you are just getting it steamed at the jewelers in the Mall feel free to stop in anytime you pass by......just watch out for the sales pitches that usually accompany them and take their "your ring is falling to pieces" evaluations with the thought in mind that the reason they do free cleanings/polish/buff is to get you in the door for much bigger purchases :)

Don't clean it every week. White gold needs to be redipped when it wears off. If you clean it every week in a chemical cleaner you will probably need to get it redipped each year.

Your ring doesn't need it. Don't clean it more than once a month. Rinsing it off in water when you wash your hands should keep it clean enough for you without scraping off part of the gold.

I clean my rings once a week every time you give yourself a manicure, put your rings in the cleaner, when your nails are all done your rings will be all sparkly clean.

I would clean it every other week, unless it becomes very dirty. The chemicals my take an effect on they ring over time, but you could always ask your jewelry store.

Congrats!
