My five-month-old kitten’s paw pads are black, but where they blistered and peeled, they’ve turned a pink, "newborn" color. I rub an aloe-based lotion on his paws and changed his litter, but he still refuses to use his box, preferring to pee on fabric or carpeting. He used his box for weeks; how can I convince him to use the box again?

If his paws hurt when he used the litterbox he may have made a painful association with the litterbox. Cats will sometimes remember traumas and associated locations for a long, long time. I had a cat once who all of her life freaked out if anyone carried her toward the front porch. She had been squeezed hard there as a kitten (in order to keep her from escaping into danger) and apparently never forgot the association of the porch with fear and pain.
Try moving her litterbox, use a different box, a different type of litter in a different location. This may help break her association of the litterbox with pain. And be gentle with him. Cats respond better to gentle treatment.

When I adopted my 6 week old 2 years ago I took the cat to the litter box area and did the following. Take the cat to the litter box and take his paws and scoop the litter to show him. Like you would explain to a human tell him that this is where you go to the bathroom etc. Then every time he uses it give him a treat. Soon enough he will know where to go. But most cats get it pretty quickly. REMEMBER IT WILL TAKE PATIENCE TO GET IT RIGHT.

A Sensitive Vasoline on their paws will work. Make sure every time they go in the litter box praise them if they dont go in the litter box, after they eat put them in there and if they go give them treats I Had the same problem with my cats. The Cat Might Also Be allergic to the litter

I'd end up going to my vet to ask them personally. He could have an infection or something that might be causing them to blister and peel. The kitty litter could also have something that his skin doesn't like and it could be a reaction to it.

What kind of litter are you using? Try using a corn based one, don't use Silica Crystal that will hurt him even more. As for the lotion, I would use one from the pet store, it's usually pet approved. Meaning, if they lick it, it won't harm them.

i think the food is the problem.probaly he has a mis-diet .And surely the litter box is not to comfy ,try putting some grass or sponges on top of the sand.

try shredded up newspaper as litter til he heals. the litter hurts his feet right now, it's grainy & has perfume. they say to use the newspaper after a declawing (mean) since their feet hurt.
