...get use to an exercise. like to get to the point that you will plateau.

in other words when should you make your exercise more difficult? (add more time or more reps)

If you're doing weight training you keep doing reps till you get a burn and then try and do 3 or 4 more. This is if you want to actually build muscle. If you just want to tone then just do lots of reps until you have a good sweat but don't increase the weight aggressively. Actually if you want to tone take ballet or yoga. I never saw a dancer with a chubby body.

When it feels comfortable - if you're talking weight, you'll be able to feel that a certain weight isn't heavy anymore.

well i know when it takes me longer to sweat or to feel it
