Jews don't believe in Jesus so it doesn't matter. Lenny Kravits isn't a Jew, his father is. A Jew is someone with a Jewish mother or converted through an Orthodox conversion

There are a lot of black Jews. Whole tribes of Ethiopians have converted to Judaism, for one thing, and have always claimed to be one of the lost tribes. Other non-whites also, such as the bene menashe of India. The Pathans are another such tribe. Please see for more information:

We don't care what color Jews are. We have all colors, all races. It's being Jewish itself that's the important thing.

Jews couldn't care less whether people say Jesus was black or white, or purple with red polka dots because Jesus is completely irrelevant to Judaism. Doesn't exist.

EDIT: To Asker: Your comment that "Lenny Kravitz is a black half jew, there's a difference." is incorrect.

A person cannot be a half Jew.

If Lenny's mother was Jewish, then so is he. And in that case he would be completely, totally Jewish, not half.

If his mother wasn't Jewish, then neither is he, at all, whatsoever.

What his father was (or is), is irrelevant to Lenny's being Jewish or not.

It is the mother *only* who passes down being Jewish to the children, according to Jewish law. So the child is a Jew ONLY if his or her mother was Jewish. Otherwise the child isn't Jewish. Period. S/he cannot be "half Jewish".

Interestingly enough, the "Jewish Gene" has now been found, and it was found on the MOTHER'S (the female) mitochondrial DNA, not the father's. The mother will pass this gene down to both her daughters and her sons, but ONLY the daughters can continue to pass it down. The sons cannot - so if they want their children to be Jewish, they MUST marry a Jewish woman. For further information on this, please refer to Bennett Greenspan of Family Tree DNA and Dr. Michael Hammer at the University of Arizona.

The only other way a person can be a Jew is if they converted to Judaism in the manner given by Jewish law. Otherwise, they are only Jewish if their mother was, according to traditional Jewish law.

I don't know if they should be insulted or complimented. However, Jesus was Hebrew as were the original Jews. If you look on a map and see where Bethlehem, and other places mentioned in the bible were you would see that they are all located in and around the middle east. People from that region typically have dark skin. That's generaly why people say that he was plus that whole scripture with him having bronze skin and hair of wool.

Well, let's see..... In my synagogue there are several Black families. My granddaughter happens to be mixed race (1/2 black, 1/4 Italian, 1/8 Portuguese, 1/8 Ukrainian- and yes, that does make a whole!), although she "looks" Black, and she is DEFINITELY Jewish. Sammy Davis, Jr. was a Black Jew, albeit a convert. Lenny Kravitz is a Black Jew. By the way, there are Jews in every country, on every continent on Earth. There are Hispanic Jews, Asian jews, Ethiopian Jews (who are very dark) etc. etc. etc..... Open your mind. OH and Jesus was middle eastern an therefore more of a dark olive complexion- not that it matters... he was one of US all the way to his death.

Since we don't deal with Jesus much anyway, it really doesn't matter. If you mean, if Jesus was black therefore most Jews then were black--same answer: although I'm white it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

[edit] The last time a saw a black Jew was last Friday at my synagogue.

We don't care either way
1) Jesus is meaningless to us- so why should we care about what people say about him?
2) Race is meaningless to us- as it says at the start of every chapter of masechta Avos (what non-Jews popularly call "The ethics of the fathers") "Kol Yisrael arazim zeh la zeh"- "All of Israel is responsible one for another". It is all inclusive- regardless of ethnicity, sex or level of belief, every Jew is the same and we are all responsible to look after our fellow Jew!

As for the last time I saw a black Jew- last shabbos (and I'll see him again tomorrow). Very nice guy- and his kids are very sweet (his eldest often comes over to play with my youngest :-D )

Good question. What really makes me mad is when I see a black Santa Claus. I mean, how can Santa Claus be black, he lives at the North Pole? If he is black, does that mean there are black elves too? Where does it end? Black unicorns? Black leprechauns?

Obviously Jesus was Hispanic, his name was Jesus.

Julius Lester. He's a professor at the University of Massachusetts and cantor with a synagogue in Vermont.

Jesus is a Christian thing. We really don't care.

Jamie Foxx played a black Jew in the movie Ali.

But in real life, never.

And Jews should probably just laugh because to say Jesus was black is to say Jews are black. Anyone who has seen a Jew would know better.
