stay away from her if possible! and if not, ignore her...or why even let what she says bother you? she's obviously insecure and overbearing and feels the need to dominate you or the situation, so why let her? If she's doing it in public, walk away, let her stand wherever she is and make a fool out of herself alone.

Well, it depends. (kind of need more info.) is she insulting you?
The worse thing you could do is to lower yourself to her level.
Try saying, 'was that REALLY necessary?' When she says something rude. If she doesn't respond, act shocked.
"GASP!, Aunt so-and-so, I can't BELIEVE you would say such a thing!!!"
Or, if the comment it directed at you, you could always burst into hysterics. That should shut her up.

Do you know what prompted her to be an annoying loudmouth? Did you do something to upset her? Did you say something that upset her? Did you kick her dog? Were you caught pilfering in her purse? Did you smoke in the house? Did you drink the last of her blackberry wine?

I'm inclined to think the problem here is you, not her.

If she embarrasses you in public, you need to tell her to quiet down and chill out.

If she is just loud in general, just say "Aunt so-and-so, we can HEAR YOU, you don't have to scream."

Say it in a polite voice with a smile, and there should be no problem. Sometimes it isn't what you do but how you do it. :)
