Just a measure of the thickness, when you get pretty small, there is not a decimal equivalent.

There is a difference between wire gauge and sheet metal gauge.

Gauge of sheet metal refers to the thickness of the metal. the larger the no. the smaller thinner the thickness. sheet metal comes in many different sizes. 26 GA. is about the smallest Ga. that is used. "light residential" , 16 Ga. for heavy commercial, 8 Ga. for industrial. Than we have aluminum, It is measured in decimal points. The smaller the no. the thicker the sheets. Stainless steal is the just like aluminum.

it comes in differnt gauges 14 16 18 .........depends on the app.common 14 or 16
