Usually the ones that are the most gregarious are the ones that will fit into your home in a shorter period of time.
The shy ones would work too but they need a longer acclimation period.
Good luck with your choice!

Most shelters have trial periods where you can take the animal home for a day or the weekend. But if you cannot do this, you can ask to hold the cat and you can walk around with it or whatever.
They might put a leash on it to avoid it darting out a door, but you can tell usually by the history that is known of the cat, and how it reacts to you holding and talking to it, whether it's the right animal for you.

Most shelters will at least let you take the kitty out and go into an office or close the room off and let the kitty run around, so you can get better acquainted. Either way, you're really not going to get to see the kitty's true personalitly until you've had him/her for a while and the kitty gets comfortable with you. So you're may have to just pick the kitty that tugs at your heartstrings the most and hope for the best. Good luck!

We looked up our cat online. On our county's site the qorkers describe the cat, so we knew what we were getting. You can take out the cat and hold it if there aren't acquantance rooms. You could ask the people who work there about the specific cat in question.
Good luck!

your awesome for saving a life. i tell everyone to adopt!! my guy was found behind a work dumpster by a friend of my moms, she kept him in the shop til he was like 3-4 months & i ended up taking him sight unseen, he was totally feral & had to get used to humans. now you would never know he was a wild one! i would try to go for a younger one if you can, they have a better chance of coming around like mine did. or pet them trough the cage if you can to see if they try to rub on you & purr-then you'll know they like the attention. good luck on your new baby!

Would the shelter give you a trial period maybe? Take it home for a while see if it's compatible?
