And in Peru, some Roman Catholics in Churches in honor of this day got buried in the rubble. Since it was at 6:40pm, Wednesday, Aug.15.

Do you think this means something? Or is it a coincidence?

Another false teaching of popery.

Mary was assumed? ... You know what happens when one assumes and not presumes.

Mary did not ascend into heaven. She was assumed. There is a difference. Jesus ascended into heaven by his own power, whereas Mary was assumed by the power of God.

For Catholics, the date is not as important as the actual dogmatic truth of Mary's Assumption. Most Christians believe in Rapture. Mary's assumption is, in essence, a mini-rapture, in that she was the first to experience it. The date was probably arrived at in substitution of a local feast day, perhaps on the dedication of a new church building in Mary's honor.

Now, as far as the earthquake is concerned, if you are implying that God was punishing Catholics for celebrating the Assumption, I believe that is absurd.

It is possible that some were being punished for other reasons, but I doubt it.

I believe it was mere conicidence.

The actual DATE of the Assumption was not recorded because ordinary people didn't keep calendars at that time of history. Nobody knew their own birth date or wedding date or what not - they told time by seasons, not calendar dates.

So, the feast of the Assumption was set for Aug. 15 not because anybody thinks that's the actual anniversary date of its occurrence, but because it was the right season for this feast.

Whether or not the Peru earthquake has anything to do with this is beyond my ability to know.

August 15 is not the date on which the Assumption of Mary took place. August 15 is merely the date the Church has chosen to acknowledge Mary's Assumption.

So they could have something to celebrate while the Hindus were celebrating Krishna Janmashtami, the birthday of Krishna, eighth avatar of Vishnu.
