The show does not indicate what sex they are and the show is only meant for babies from the ages of 6 months to 18months.
Just cuz one of them holds a purse in one of the episodes doesn't make him gay. I know lots of little boys and girls that played with there momma's purse and they didn't turn out gay. People now days need to get a life and stop nit picking about a baby show.

Gee, let's try for a POSITIVE answer instead of beating every Christian over the head:

The characters are obviously two boys (Tinky-Winky and Dipsy) and a two girls (Laa Laa and Po). The purple Teletubby, Tinky-Winky, was male, purple and carried a purse. Plus the symbol on his head (his antenna) was a triangle.

Some people think the color purple was popular to express support of homosexuality, the triangle was a popular shape to express homosexuality, and this teletubby who is obviously a boy, was always carrying a purse.

My brother carried my mom's purse when he was under three. It's normal to emulate your parents, even the ones of the opposite sex, when you're young. I saw nothing wrong with that. My bro is a straight arrow.

The purple and triangle stuff were just whack.

The people who beat up Christians about this know that one Christian newsletter printed a story detailing all these reasons as to why the Teletubbies are a bad influence on young kids. That it was created as a support for homosexuality.

Jerry Falwell was blamed for the article. He should have been because his name is on the publication, and that means he agrees with the articles. BUT, instead of reading the article, written by a weirdo, he just let it get printed. Laziness can come back and bite you. It bit Falwell squarely on the you-know-what.

I agree that the article was an overreaction, but I have no clue why this is being asked so many years after the controversy. This was more than 10 years ago.-- maybe because Falwell recently died and people can't let well enough alone when it comes to beating up Christians?

I hate the Teletubbies, i never let my daughter watch that when she was younger. They don't talk or sing except to say "uh oh" or "big hug" and there is nothing educational about this programme at all, it's just a bunch of people in big fat suits dancing around like pansy's. And i'm not knocking all kids programmes that have people in suits because i love The Tweenies, they are colourful, they TALK properly, and they sing and dance (as in actual actions), my daughter learned so much from this and other programmes like this. She could sing the alphabet song at 14 months....rather than just being able to say "uh oh".

Yes, it's old news. The British person that created the show didn't know that one of Teletubbies symbols was the color and shape of gay pride symbol used in the US. That's why and the issue started in 1995 when show started to be on in the US..............Fundamental Christians raised objections about a completely harmless issue in this case.....

i think i heard something ages ago about the people inside them being gay. maybe it comes from that or a misguided attempt at being pc. some people will just find fault with everything which is a pity when kids love them so much.

Because one of the tellitubbies (TinkyWinky - the purple one) was conveyed as a man but always carried a red womans purse.

I don't think the Teletubbies are gay... but they sure are annoying at times!

Because mean-spirited Conservative Christians prefer to draw attention away from their own adulterous, mean spirited or illegal activities and place it on something else and little purple characters can't fight back. Anyway, this was a news item in the 1990s. I don't think anybody cares now.
