one beer. I know I'm only going to have one, but just thinking about it is making me slightly nauseated. Also, I'm on anti-seizure drugs for epilepsy - apparently it is safe to have 1-2 drinks while on these drugs. But I'm still worried! Drinking has been something that I've been afraid to try - it's this uncharted territory that I'm entering and it's scary!
Will I be stumbling around after one beer (anti-seizure drugs make you a bit of a light weight)?
Can someone ease my fears?

ETA: I am drinking this beer (a Heineken) at home, not going anywhere! (It's pretty nasty, by the way!) And I am keeping food/water nearby. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm going to be starting college and I want to be able to go to a party and get a buzz (not fall-down-drunk!). Also, this is something my mom has allowed me to do. She said she would rather me try drinking a beer at home instead of at a party.
Unfortunately, when I opened the bottle, it foamed a lot and got everywhere...I hope I can get rid of the smell, because my dad doesn't know that she's allowing me to do this!

Drink a beer when you are ready, not when you think you have to.

Height? weight? Sex? drug name?
a 6ft male weighing 165lbs and on anti seizure could have 2-3 beers without worry. The most typical complication with medications and Alcohol is drowsiness. IE: you fall asleep after a couple beers.
Okay
1: your underage, but at home with parent supervision.
2: Read your pill bottles: may cause drowsiness.
3:have a beer watch a movie and realize nothing is going to happen.
The way alcohol reacts with your body is complex but here is a basic run down; you may feel a "buzz" that is your body reacting to the sugars in the beer and releasing mild endorphins, after 30 minutes your body will be close to breaking down the alcohol this is where it becomes a depressant(you become relaxed and sleepy) Most anti seizure medications are depressants. You can have a beer and have a 90% chance of not even feeling anything. 10% you might get a little buzz and then sleep real good tonight. If you puke it is because of you not the beer. You are working yourself up through paranoia and anticpation just sip and enjoy. You don't need to worry.
As a final thought I should point out that alcohol is a dangerous drug and should be ingested with care and no American under 21 should drink, and all that legal babble. Enjoy yourself. It's only a beer.

Drinking isn't for everyone. If you're nervous and afraid, and you're on anti-seizure drugs you may not enjoy it very much. The point is to enjoy it. On the other hand, you'll probably wonder about it your whole life if you don't try it. This may work well for you...How about trying just a sip of an alcoholic beverage you think you might enjoy the taste of? Some like beer, some like wine and some like cocktails. There is a lot of variety in each category so there is probably at least one you'll like.
Remember that drinking too much is a bad idea, and never drive if you've been drinking. Make that a rule you always follow. If you can't follow that rule then don't drink at all!

Depends on how big you are. I've been on migraine meds (ones that are used as anti-seizure meds as well) for years, and it does make an impact in how much of a lightweight you are. Just because it's your first time drinking, you'll feel drunk a lot faster than if you drank every day. The meds will have the same effect on you. It only takes 1 or 2 drinks for me to feel completely drunk, but since I didn't have much to drink, the feeling only lasts for a short time - maybe an hour. I've never been falling down drunk after a drink or 2 with my meds, you just feel it in your head. So if that's your concern, you should be fine. Just wait it out an hour or 2 before you drive. Have fun and don't stress out too much!

All I can really tell you is good luck. Heineken is a very strong beer. If you try something a little lighter, like Miller Lite or Bud Light you might be able to stand it a little better. just don't shake it up too much, it will foam a lot. Drink it kinda slowly and when you start feeling buzzed, just quit drinking.

My first beer didn't really give me a buzz, I couldn't even finish the last 3rd of it because of the taste. (Cheap beer)
A friend of mine was on epilepsy meds in college. And it's true, just one or two. She'd just sip and enjoy instead of slugging them down. She also tended to order harder alcohol to extend those "one or two drinks". She was always loopy at the end of two drinks.
In my opinion, you won't be falling down drunk. Just take it slow and enjoy the beer. You might get a bit of a buzz though. Make sure you have a way home or a place to stay, and do what I call "check yourself in your head". If you realize you're losing coordination or saying stupid stuff, then stop. And make sure to eat something first.

If you've never had a beer before and you're used to coca-cola or sprite or something make sure you're not expecting a sweet tasting drink.
That being said, if you're drinking something like corona or budweiser the alc content is like 2.5%ish. So don't worry too much about that.
If you feel sick then stop drinking the beer and have water and or coffee. Eating can help too if you feel woozy.
Aside from that drink slow and be responsible, oh and maybe research your meds or speak to your doctor.

If I were drinking my first beer all over again, I can tell you straight up, it wouldn't be a nasty beer like heiniken. And what makes you think you have to drink to have a good time anyway? I don't mean to sound mean but if drinking a beer bothers you so much try something that doesn't taste nasty, like, a mixed drink or something.
Try mixing coconut rum, mango rum and pinapple juice. And if you go to a college party that doesn't have hooch, Leave.

You don't have to drink to be cool in college. I'm a drinker, but I have several friends who don't drink. No one ever thought less of them for being sober at a party. You can always drink apple juice with a little soda water to make it look like your drinking beer. Or just say you don't drink.

If you're worried and nauseated already, then why are you doing it? Don't let anyone pressure you into doing anything you're not comfortable with. I agree with Bert C -- if you are going to drink it, do it slowly and stop if it makes you queasy. Or drink a very weak mixed drink instead. Beer isn't for everyone.

Do not drink at all... why bother. It could affect you taking anti seizure meds.. you do not need to drink a beer... it could make you have a seizure, and thats not good. If you must drink or taste a beer ..get the one with no alcohol in it.
