I have a wedding to attend this weekend. I'm hoping to save a little money and wear something I already own. I have a navy knit dress and a red knit dress. I plan to dress them up with accessories, but is the color navy ok? I'm questioning the red dress because her wedding colors are red and white. The wedding is at 2pm, we live in a rural town in Virginia and the wedding isn't over the top, but not a cheap wedding either. Just trying to save a little money, but would appreciate honest opinions.

Don't wear the red, but the Navy would be great... Just wear a nice necklace, bracelet and cute shoes and you'll be perfect! Have fun!

There's nothing at all wrong with wearing either dress. They both sound perfectly appropriate for an afternoon wedding.

I agree that if the wedding colors are red and white, navy might be the better choice, but only marginally. Really, as long as it's clean and decent, either will work perfectly well. I've never seen anything in any etiquette guide of any time or any place that considered red or navy inappropriate for a wedding.

Choose which one you'd rather wear, dress it up how you please, and go have fun at the wedding.

Go with the navy knit dress and dress it up with outstanding accessories, possibly red and white earrings and necklace. Also buy red shoes. This will really make the dress stand out on its own. Carry a red clutch bag and you will be ready.

Sometimes people say you shouldn't wear red to a wedding because it's too flashy. Basically, you should make sure you never out-shine the bride. BUT since her wedding colors are red and white, you're more likely to blend in wearing red than to stand out. Either dress should be fine. Pick whichever color looks best on you. Dress it up with a pretty necklance, dangly earrings and strappy sandals.

Enjoy the wedding.

Dont wear red for two reasons 1 It does take attention away from the bride but 2 her wedding party is wearing red, you arent part of the wedding party you are to blend in as a guest the navy dress would do perfectly. lol perhaps if you take a picture with the bride and one of her maids then you may be considered patriotic. Have fun and congratulations to your friend.

Attire as a wedding guest rules of thumb:

Informal Daytime: Short dress or suit (business attire OK for morning weddings)
Informal Evening: Cocktail dress
Semi-Formal Daytime: Short dress or suit
Semi-formal Evening: Cocktail dress
Formal Daytime: Short dress or suit. Hats and gloves optional.
Formal Evening or Black-Tie: Long or dressy short cocktail (beading, glam accessories, wrap)
Ultra-formal or White Tie: Long gown, extra glitz (furs, diamonds, etc.)

Don't wear white because it competes with the bride. There are plenty of other colors available.
Don't wear black or sequins during the daytime.
Don't worry about wearing the same colors as the bridesmaids or mothers. You can't possibly coordinate with everyone in the wedding party.
Do wear something feminine and appropriate, out of respect for your hosts. Clubwear, overtly sexy clothing (strapless, see-through, etc) doesn't belong at a wedding. If you have to ask if it's appropriate, it probably isn't.
Don't wear opera-length gloves (to top of arm) with anything but sleeveless or strapless gowns.
Do take off gloves to eat or drink.
Do use good judgment if the invitation doesn't specify the formality of the event. A pastel suit or soft floral dress for daytime or a little black dress for evening (after 6 p.m.) will take you almost anywhere.

Between the two choices, I would stay away from the red because that is the wedding party's color. If you go with the navy, try adding white jewelry to give it almost a nautical look. I think you can pull it off because it is end of summer/fall so you don't need to wear summer colors persay. Good luck.

Without knowing what the dress looks like I would say that a navy dress is fine. I would make sure to have cute accessories to dress it up.

Wear the navy and kick it up with some great accessories. Since red and white is the bride's choice, it wouldn't be appropriate for you to wear the same.

I think the navy with some nice accessories sounds great. Especially as it's an afternoon wedding too formal would be inappropriate.
