You are in a hole.
Your Suburban is almost worthless on the market right now.
You want a $2600 POS or a $5000 POS?
Me? I would go to Honda or Toyota dealer, make the best deal you can-withOUT a trade-in. Tell him you don't have one.
It is true, since you are not USING it for a trade.)
REally do some research and figure out how much you should pay, and what incentives, etc there are. BE tough to deal with, because THEY need YOU .
LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN AT HOME. This is business-like applying fo ra job.Take a man with you who can be your BS detector. Even a neighbor will do. Pay him, if necessary, to listen. Car dealers think women are stupid because a lot of them are (on this particular topic.) They can be very patronizing. Walk out of there, if that is the case.
Make a deal on a 1-2 year-old SUV or VAN. with about 15-40 K miles on it. WATCH your MPGs. LIES, all lies.
THEN tell your sales person, you might have a trade-in after all. (You were going to keep it for a planter-right?)
What can he do in THAT case?
See how the numbers jump around. It will be fun.
If he will give you $3-4K go for it. Do not tell him what is wrong with the car-that is his business-he knows it's not a virgin.
If they offer you less than $2600-act insulted-and tell them you will sell it in the paper and be back with your down payment.
Never ever ever take the first offer. WALK AWAY.
Come back in 2 days and let him sweat. There will be more cars. Don't let "buyer juice" make you nuts.
Don't buy any BS unless he puts it in WRITING.
You will end up with a buyer's incentive, a new vehicle and someone else will have your white elephant.
Don't whine, don't look to your sales person to be your pal or tell you the truth. They don't know how. They know how to make money for their boss, and make payments on their big new houses.
They do not care about you and your silly problems.
Good luck.

Question..What is wrong that costs $2500???? Mine is a 1985 and 274,000 miles. I have NEVER put that much in one repair!! I would strongly suggest a second opinion. Transmission rebuild around $1600, rebuilt engine in Texas..$1800 and warranty on these repairs. Yes, I use it for it's size and it saved my family's life from a drunk in 1990.
Get second opinion. With proper care and area of no rust, thes can run almost forever.
I will take the opposite opinion from above. And YES, I can buy whatever I want, but chose not to just waste money.
If you buy another truck,,no matter what,,now you have 5 more years of payments at perhaps $600 per month MINIMUM..at that rate, fix it and in four months you are ahead again. Now, I do not know the condition of your truck, but with mine at so many miles, I look at how many months I must drive it to offset repairs. If you buy a used anything, you do not know it's condition fully and then could be back in the same condition.
Good luck and may God Bless.

I would keep it and fix it. These are reliable vehicles. A lot of them around and on the road. I am guessing it has a 350 in it which has been a reliable engine over the years. I don't know what the repairs are for, but you would do better fixing a vehicle you know than buying a vehicle you may end up fixing in a few months.

KEEP IT. FIX IT, PAY IT OFF!
The burban is a keeper. Sounds like you have been neglecting the repairs, and prevenative maintenance for way too long! This is what you get for mistreating such a nice piece of american machinery. If only you had changed the oil every 3k or 3 months, you wouldnt have had this problem.

I would repair it since if your going to get a similar vehicle your payments are going to be about 400 a month.

Did you preform all scheduled maintance, and what exactly went wrong with the Burban? I have a old chevy truck that had 180,000 and it wouldn't die, but I was checking every week to make sure it was all good.

I like these trucks, but it's not mine. The best thing to go on is your own gut feeling. Do you like the truck and is it reliable. All vehicles need repair and maintenance so just because one vehicle has a steep repair bill, it doesn't mean another won't. Trust your gut!

The mileage is ok...it should give you much more liife. I'd repair it and keep on driving...it's lots cheaper than paying $30k for a new one...
